I want LA to win in regulation tomorrow. They then pass Winnipeg for the wild card and when the Flames beat Toronto on Friday then the Flames pass the Canucks into second in the Pacific.

LA winning 2-1 would be the best possible split for a Flames second place finish.
If all three games took place in a row this would put Vancouver at 82 points and LA at 81. In this scenario the Flames would only need to get to 82 points in their next 2 games (considering games in hand) to get second place. If LA won all three they would be in second place with 83 points and it would be one point tougher for the Flames to catch them.
I'm really just hoping for no three point games though.

I'm cheering for them both to lose, but at least not a 3 pointer
Other than that I guess I will avoid paying attention to this game until tomorrow to look at the score.

A Vancouver win tonight might be the best case scenario if it can somehow derail LA:s efforts to get back into playoff position. I would just love to see the Kings stumble these next few games.

I want Vancouver to win all three in regulation.... But it will cost them bodies and have them tired when the dance begins in April.

Neither of them win and no points are awarded.
Other than that, yeah, no 3 pointers. Don't really care either way, Flames just need to keep winning.

I despise the Canucks, and will never cheer for them to win. Given these two choices, I will cheer for LA and then trust that Calgary can grab the bull by the horns and make it in on their own merits rather than relying on the fortunes of another team.

I'm going to say 2-1 for the Kings, all in regulation of course.
I'm confident that if the Flames keep doing what they are doing, the above result would leave us in a good position to both stay ahead of the Kings and catch the Canucks for home ice in the playoffs.
(furiously knocking on wood)

Could one of these teams screw the Flames more in head to heads or something, if it came down to a tie at the end of the year?

Awful lot of hubris in here... playoffs is the goal. Not a particular first round matchup, not home ice advantage. Just playoffs.

Canucks vs Kings (3 times)
Playoffs is the goal, but someone needs to win these games. Most important above all else is these remaining 2-pointers. Past that, Flames want home ice advantage in the playoffs, so we're cheering for LA to win in regulation.

Someone does have to win these games and people can cheer for who they like I guess, but imo people should want whatever team to win that will give the Flames the best shot at making the playoffs. Not the best shot at playing one team or another in rd1, not the best shot at home ice, just the playoffs. Anything else is putting the cart before the horse in my view.

They need to make it before they worry about who they are playing, so in that vein... You'd want to cheer for Vancouver in regulation.

LA has a pretty tough schedule moving forward. Them going 0-3 vs. Vancouver would put a HUGE dent in their playoff hopes. Vancouver is making it no matter what, they have the easiest schedule of all of the competing teams, even if they go 0-3 they'll probably still manage to squeeze in. Plus LA being out of the playoffs = good thing for the rest of the league

For the Flames and the potential of getting home ice advantage in the first round it would be better if LA wins. However, the likelihood of having to deal with LA in the first round would be significantly increased. It's a dilemma for sure.

Yeah I think you have to cheer for the team that increases our chances of actually making the playoffs, which unfortunately is Vancouver today.

The goal is to finish as high in the standings as possible, which of course also implies making the playoffs. Why set an artificially low benchmark like just making the playoffs? I am sure the players want to finish as high as possible.
Not that any of this matters. It's not like hoping for an outcome has any bearing on the outcome. Telling people what they should hope for is silly. Since it has no bearing on the outcome, why not just hope for the best possible outcome?

hoping vancouver wins all three in regulation i would rather gain some ground on teams behind us and if we finish 3rd in the division or 2nd doesn't really matter as we will be probably playing vancouver . home ice shouldn't matter too much as we are a very good road team as well
