Lemme just put it like this:

THe FLames were down 4-0 and I didn't turn the TV off.

The Culture has bled into the fans.

Culture plus some rookies and "no-names" (think Bouma and Jooris) really stepping up.

I think the fitness of this team is unmatched, and that is why they dominate as the game wears on.

And a special amount of heart and brotherhood.

And more skill than people realize. 3 good NHL goalies, when some teams don't even have one. Scoring from all over the line-up. Excellent coaching.

Team has been very fortunate to scrape out some points of late. The results have been great but this looks like a team on the verge of a losing streak. waiting for that shoe to drop.

10 players with 10+ goals. Backlund and Colborne will likely get there too.

I think after playing 80% of their regular season games we can in fact determine that this Flames team is for real. They play a great team game, out work their opponents and never give up. A few more seasons of player development for the young kids and they will be a regular contender.

Even if this final stretch of games isn't the greatest, are we really going to judge the entire season on 20% of the games?

They may or may not make the playoffs - the west is tough.

But there is no bubble. They are for real.

I am pulling for Calg to make playoffs. Huge props to character. Can't teach character. You have it or you don't.

Our defense core has stepped up since Gio's injury and have done their part. Brodie has got to be getting gassed though, he's playing more minutes and skating non-stop trying to cover for Engelland.

Success has been due to playing as a team, so it's no surprise that the product hasn't changed a whole lot with Gio gone.

And as has been mentioned before, it's not a small sample size. This Flames team established their identity for over a year now.

Say if we do make the playoffs, is there a chance of gio returning?

If I ignore what I have actually witnessed the last 5 months, then i am voting option a.

However, there is simply no denying that this club is so much more than the sum of its parts and whatever that "it" factor is (culture/identity/destiny etc) , means they make the post season and probably in a fairly comfortable manner. It sure is both mind boggling and exhilirating to witness.

They are not what they appear to be, which is a better team without Gio than with. But with a light schedule to close out the season, they may still be close enough to team they were to make the playoffs.

I was thinking this last night. It was about 1AM where I live and we were down 4 - zip. Before this season I would have just gone to bed but there's something about this team. I had a feeling that they'd come back in the 3rd, and I know you can never give up on them.

Hartley for Jack Adams.

Found a gem while creeping HFBruins.

This is as good a place as any to put this; Mark Spector admits that he was wrong about the Flames, over and over and over and over again.
