I know this is off topic but...
Did any notable players play for the Oilers, Canucks, and Leafs ever in NHL history?

Sounds like someone asked Johnston where he thought Lupul would end up.
He answered Calgary.
Not sure that qualifies as a rumor.

If they tacked on some assets to Lupul for a polite thank you, then sure, I'd take him. Negative value for sure.

I get the sense that Treliving wants to make room for young, polished guys, not plug up the roster with veteran forwards.
Unless we're taking on his contract along with the Leafs' 2015 first rounder. I can live with that.

Can this "rumor", not be its own thread? Thanks.

Based on that I don't think there is any way we get him. Goes against everything Treliving has been preaching. The only way this happens is if Burke forces him to do it.

Yes, but they were all smelly so we don't want them. Next question?

Could be wrong but Treliving has been preaching that he won't give up much for rentals. He has said they would spend cap space on players with term if it made sense. You can argue that Lupul is to injury prone to want to give up anything for him, but if the price was right on a top 6 forward I have no doubt that Treliving would pull the trigger.

Honestly if its a negative value trade i think its a great fit. Remaining salary is much lower than cap hit, Cap shouldn't be a huge issue in his final two years. top RW or position of need, even being injury prone kinda plays into giving guys like Poirier development opportunities without anointing them.
But honestly as a negotiator i wouldn't take the guy for anything less than free.
The only problem is to bring forwards in we will have to move forwards out, beause this team is bursting at the seems with NHL ready forwards. its just that Lupul is better at hockey than most of them.
