Good thread for me too.

I will just let JonDuke ask all the questions though.

Actually I do have a questions regarding UFA signings. What is the most amount of years and term you can sign a player for?

3 yaers. Not sure what the difference is between year and term in your question though. If you mean $ amount the max is 10M

No. Please feel free to jump in any time if you have question. It may even be something I have yet to think of, so you're welcome to inquire, for sure.

Say we sign a free agent and then trade him right away. Is there an unwritten rule where free agents might not want to sign with your team after they see they could just get traded right away?

No unwritten rules Hockey. Players go back and forth all the time.

Nothing like that. The only thing to remember is you need the cap space to re-sign your own UFAs, or any UFAs made available through the batches.
But UFAs are decided completely by the offers made - there are no subjective items - just who makes the best offer by $$/year.

^To add to the above.

6.1 million for 1 year
beats
6.05 million for 3 years.

Quick question. I have a pile of ufa's on my team. When it comes to resigning your own ufa's to a grid, can I sign them to 1 year deals, or do all ufa's being retained by teams have to be a 3 year deal?

I understand the bidding process of ufa's at the end of the season, but I am referring to ufa's a team may retain.

Per the Rules:

Quote:
Any UFA player signed to a grid deal will be signed to a 3-year and a 1-way contract
Signing your own UFA to a grid deal is an automatic 3 year deal and 1 way deal.
