The idiots that run these establishments now need to realize that it is 2005 and racism should not be used to discriminate people from bars. I have not been allowed into bars countless times due to my skin color. I have never ever been involved in any fights or caused any trouble at the bars. If these idiots would just understand that skin color does not determine whether you are going to get into a fight... It's a person attitude.

As a born and raised Calgarian, I can honestly say that nothing has ever insulted and inraged me as much as the racial profiling that I've had to deal with at Calgary Nightclubs. Like you, I have never been in a fight or caused any kind of trouble in any club/bar or anywhere and having to go through this shinguard in my own home town p*sses me off like nothing else.
If scanning ID's will stop this shinguard (which I still doubt) I am all for it.

Yes it would be nice to eliminate the racial profiling that does occur in this city. But, unfortunately this is Calgary, a great city, but one that does have a major problem with racial issues like the ones that continually occur in our nightlife.
Some people may argue that it is because of all the violence in the clubs, but lets face the truth. Calgary is not the only large city with a problem with violence in nightclubs, they all do, Edmonton, Vancouver, Toronto, Winnipeg, etc. Yet the racist profiling does not occur to the level in the other citiies as is practiced here . Being that I have an opportunity to frequent these cities on a monthly basis, I can honestly say that the racist mindset is much more prevelent in Calgary.
I hope that it someday changes, and throughout the years seems to be getting better mind you with respect to racist ideals. But it still is a problem in this city, whether it is because of the redneck mentality, who knows. It is an embarrasment that it is still occurring to this day.
As far as this law student, it does not seem to be a racial issue at all, from what I gather from other replies to this thread, which is a good thing. But, racial profiling does occur in many of our establishments nonetheless. It needs to be eliminated.
