I love it how people dump on the guy for putting forth insightful trade proposals. Half the people on this forum havent even played competitive hockey #bush

Advanced stats guys think Backlund is one of the best 2 way centers in the league. Hartley and Treliving, more traditional guys, think Backlund is one of the best 2 way C's in the league.

Trading him at any point would be silly. He is very good.

It doesn't take us to play hockey that some of those proposals will never happen. Great that you are defending the OP, bad that you executed it poorly.

Trading Backlund makes little sense. Saying that he will top out as a 20 goals and 50 points as a reason to trade him is silly. If he can be a consistent 20g 50pt guy the Flames should definitely be keeping him for many years to come. Having Bennett, Monahan and Backlund as the Flames top 3 centers should put the Flames in a spot where they could be contenders in a couple of years.

Then you traded Granlund on top of that. If you want to trade Backlund you would think you would keep Granlund around.

Ha funny thing about it is that its the truth. And alot of posters sit on the fence and pipe in when there is something posted that is controversial and thats it. But continue to come up with your witty jabs your saving the world guys bravo.... maybe take a proposal and add or subract to it.

Dump on him??? Posters here are offering up their opinions on his trade proposals. It's called discussion and if you're get butt hurt over some opinions you might want to develop a thicker skin.

No one makes trade proposals because you're more likely to be struck by lightning than call one correctly beforehand. If you want random NHL15 proposals hit up HFs.

OP loves trades involving brothers. All three involve brothers in some way. Schenns both coming to Calgary, Granlunds getting together in Minny and the Shores teaming up for the Flames, probably the Adirondack Flames, at least initially.

Appreciate the attempt to start conversation.

In terms of the proposals themselves, 1) Backlund is going to protect the young centres from being overwhelmed here, and holds a lot of value to Calgary that probably won't be matched in value to other teams. 2) Brodin just signed a long term contract, and is seen as a building block player there, much like Brodie here. 3) LA is really high on Nick Shore. He is only gettable through a sizable overpayment.

Your basic thought processes are good, but the targeting of some players need a little work. Start with a team that is either in the hunt for a cup, or in the hunt for a playoff spot, and then look at what players are integral to their chances of winning. These players are ungettable, for most purposes. Players on these teams that are not producing, or are blocked in their progression, are the players to target. An example is that other teams fans might want to poach a defensive player from our system, but is is an organizational weakness for us. GMs on the other hand, give serious thought to our center and left wing depth, because we have NHL capable replacement players in that position.

I would use the example of Boston in this situation. They are contenders, they could use a LW (a position of our strength) and have a solid D core. We can't get a member of that core, as they are in contention. Who is outside of that core? The best player available not in the NHL is Joe Morrow. So, with a salary dump on their side, we could poach Morrow with a strong enough offer.

I can almost guarantee that we will see a trade like this sometime this year from the Flames. The fun part is guessing what form it will take, as there are literally dozens of these kind of permutations out there to put together.

You're on the right track, but off target just a bit, in my estimation.

Also, having an 'Armchair GM' thread for things like this may open up the 'Trade' thread for more actual news and professional rumours. We could just rename this one more generically.

Backlund is a 2-way stud. There's a reason Babcock has salivated over him since he entered the league. You don't up and trade those kinds of players unless you have a damn good package coming back, and I've never been much of a fan of the Schenns.
