I think it's San Jose but I hope it's Vancouver.

Haha, only on CP are the defending Stanley Cup champions an aging, over the hill group of overpaid vets on the downswing.

If San Jose is going to make it, it needs to happen over these next two weeks. 7 game homestand right now. They are traditionally unstoppable at home but have been very mediocre there this year.

Math says LA. WIN and VAN can almost start printing playoff tickets.
http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/Western.html
VAN = 89.0
WIN = 80.5
SJ = 73.0
CGY = 66.6
LA = 64.3
DAL = 10.3
COL = 9.6
MIN = 8.9

It'd be a shame if LA missed the playoffs...hopefully the Canucks and Jets slow down.

BC Chris, that is a great picture!
A few of the teams ahead of us have had issues this season with consistency but the Kings are my choice. They have played a lot of hockey the last three years and it looks they it is taking it's toll. The whole Voynov issue has to be a big distraction and his play is greatly missed. They have the lowest ROW and just look like they are tired and stressed.
To be honest we are quite lucky that we are only 1 point out of a playoff spot right now after a 9 game winless streak and hovering around 500% since it ended. The fifth thru eleventh place teams have all been playing decent not great hockey for a while and any of those seven teams could make it in or not.

Hey, in our defence...Calgary seems to be LA's kryptonite.

To me the Jets are the one team playing way over their head. That being said a win over San Jose on Saturday would be a good start. Hopefully one of those teams spiral out of control. We already had our out of control Spiral.

I don't know what numbers or ratios go into the analysis but it's fun to assess as a projection anyway.

Oilers, weren't they supposed to be a playoff, challenging for the cup team?

There's a good article on Canuck Army. 5 Reasons why Canucks will miss playoffs.

Nashville is 14 pts up on a playoff spot. Pekka Rinnie is out for 3-5 weeks.
LA is getting Regehr back but will be missing Toffoli 3-4 weeks and Pearson rest of season.
The Jets are getting Trouba back soon ... recently got Bogosian, Stuart and Enstrom back and their #1 pair on defense is still Byfuglien-Chariot.
Byfuglien has been a monster since moving back to defense 21 pts in his last 20 games.... playing 25-29 minutes a game #8 in the league in hits
They might be losing Perrault.
San Jose is and has been incredibly injury free.
Vancouver will be getting Hamhuis back soon.

I think Vancouver and San Jose.
The Jets have great depth and size. I think they'll be tough to beat in the playoffs.
LA will find a way to get in. Again, great depth and size.

I was just looking at the Kings' record so far. They have played 25 home games and 19 road games, so a very tough schedule the rest of the way.
Looking at their home and away records so far, as an indication of how they may do the rest of the way, they are as follows:
Home: 15-6-4 34Pts, .680WP
Away: 5-8-6 16Pts, .421WP
So not a great road team, and a schedule that is heavy with road games. If they continue at the same pace for each, they are on pace for 90Pts
Considering that their 2nd line is basically gone, with Pearson out long term (the season?) and Toffoli out for something line 3 weeks if I'm not mistaken, I think it's the Kings that are the most vulnerable of being overtaken.

Not really. With their solid drafting, I have expected this for a while. They are finally playing the way I've thought they should be playing. What they need to do is upgrade a few positions with how well they do draft.
