I think everyone takes a turn checking the receipt as well when you walk out.

#12 on the list should be that individual Costco stores are allowed to get local shops to do work in their stores instead of being required to go through a pre-determined supplier that headquarters picked.
We've done a ton of work making display cases, millwork, cabinets, counters, reception desks, etc, etc at the two local Costco stores.

Yeah, don't they know they aren't welcome at Costco or anywhere else people younger than 30 might deign to shop?

I like Costco because it does pay it's people a reasonable wage. So I do tend to try and buy things there even if they are less expensive elsewhere, and often they are. The only real limitation is that sometimes the quantities are too much for me to reasonably consume before it would go bad (I can't eat 5 pounds of Tomatoes and unlike World War 2 era people, not into canning stuff). I do find that in terms of getting happy employees that it is as good of an option in chain retail as there is. If it's busy they try to keep every till open, and get things moving.

Completely agree, Its nice to know that you can support a corporate giant and not feel bad doing so.

I hate to say it but I currently work at Costco. I'd would much rather work for Google or Facebook through but than again your just working for the Brand name.
The **** part about Costco is that it WILL take you 5 years to reach top wage and that's IF your Full time. I've been there 5+ years and have been lucky enough to reach top wage even if I am only part time in the Department I'm in.

We call those the retirement people as you'll see mostly elderly people doing that sort of thing. Once in a while you'll see younger people but those are probably still in College or on light duties.

Wow, you mean it takes time to reach top wage at a company?
Shouldn't that pretty much ALWAYS be the case?
That probably explains why every name tag I see at Costco says they've been there forever

It's all about expectations. BMW and Mercedes buyers should be the most satisfied ones but they are usually not. Sometimes Kia buyers are more satisfied than BMW and Mercs buyer. Different expectations yield different results.
In this case, Google and Facebook are like BMW and Mercs.

Even the tireshop guys. One particularly busy Saturday I was there and the guy scanning my stuff was still in his dirty overalls. Asked him if the cashier dress code changed, and he chuckled and said "Everyone steps up when it's busy, no exceptions"

Also, 5 years to reach top wage seems very fast. Especially considering all the other benefits one gets from working at Costco full time like health care coverage.

That's for me to know and you to work there, mang All I can say is you can still make a decent living through. Besides the Managers and Assistant Managers the next top wage are people who drive the Forklifts and Cut Meat. It also depends on what Dept you work in as well, it all varies.
I don't have a clue why this is but if you work Sundays, its $4 more an hour added to your wage. Oh yeah, You know you have a good job security too working at Costco once you pass your three to six months probation as they don't fire their employee's unless your a tard and steal something.

Several years ago, I was there when one of the pharmacists at the NE location opened a checkout and was helping with the brutal pre-Christmas rush. I remember being surprised. I heard he's at the Okotoks location now. His name was George; efficient, personable, intelligent . . . three steps above most of the pharmacy staff they have working there now.
