Once a passport is reported lost/stolen, it is dead. No way to un-cancel. They will have to go back to passport Canada. The passport number is shared electronically with airlines and CBSA and are no good. CBSA would seize them on return. Airlines shouldn't let you board...

The detective said that once it 8s a matter of public record, details like that could be shared. At this point it's the 'ongoing investigation', but when the officers left the night of the break-in they said take your time filling out the missing items report. At 7:30 the following morning, the detective in charge called and ask if he could come in half hour and take as comprehensive a list of missing items as we could provide. I believe there is no question they got their warrant in hopes of finding goods still in possession, which they did.

I think it's important to see things like this in action. I am as bad as any for muttering curses at police when they have a person pulled over, adding to already heavy traffic. It's important to remember the outstanding work law enforcement does that goes largely (and unfortunately) unnoticed.
