I went with send him down. I'm a very big fan, but I also feel that it is important to the future of the Flames to build a championship caliber team in the AHL so that the players developing there learn to be winners.

He'll be in the NHL next season and hopefully will have gone on a long playoff run (and won the Calder Cup).

If they can get something for Ramo, it wouldn't be the end of the world for him to finish the year in the NHL either. I'm pretty comfortable with the Flames goaltending situation regardless of what they decide to do.

I think one more year of prepping in the AHL will hurt. Maybe he can get back for the All Star game.

If we are going to move Ramo/Hiller, they have to play in order to be showcased.

Didn't Hartley say that Ramo's injury doesn't look to be a short term thing, or did I hear that wrong on the broadcast on Saturday?

Return to Ramo/Hiller and let Ortio go back down to AHL for the rest of the year and play 80% of the games.

Other - Move Hiller at the deadline, extend Ramo and go with Ramo/Ortio the rest of the way.

It was apparently his neck, which is troubling. ferland and Smid both had longer recoveries than at first thought.

I remember Langkow's - I thought he'd be back soon because it was a puck, not a collision, but it was obviously way worse.

I voted keep Ortio until he cools down cause 1) Do we know how long Ramo is out for? and 2) I don't think Ortio will stay outstanding for that long (as in head and shoulders above Ramo and Hiller) and if he is, then great!

I think it's only fair to give him another start. If they want to keep pushing the mantra of earning spots based on play, sending him down after posting a shutout really negates all of that. He's earned one more start.

That being said, there are a handful of teams out there (Detroit, Minnesota, Colorado) with injured/ineffective goalies on the roster who I'm sure is looking at Calgary and wondering what's available right now. There's a few teams in need of an NHL experienced goalie and perhaps Ramo fits that bill for a team.

Well, as long as Ramo is out it's not an issue.

Once he's back you have to send him down unless you have a trade in hand, or care to waive Hiller/Ramo and get no return when a team inevitably grabs him. Or unless you carry three goalies, which isn't a good plan.

Once Ramo is back I expect Ortio will be returned to Adirondack. It's probably going to be at a week until he heals though.

Play Ortio until he gets scored on. After that game send him back down. Maybe call him back up if an awesome trade comes in for Ramo or Hiller. Hopefully next year Ortio earns the full time roster spot.

Situation had me looking up when Mike Vernon made the jump (no I'm not suggesting that Ortio is in that projection at this point) and the situation he was in.

It was different as the Flames didn't have two veteran goalies, they had one in Lemelin. Marc "Shaky" D'Amour beat out Vernon and Kosti for the backup role but had all kinds of dehydration issues so the Flames recalled Vernon to replace him, he looked great, and never went down.

They didn't have to move out a veteran to make space, they just flip flopped the farmhand that was backing Lemelin up.

Every win is so crucial, would be very hard to justify not giving him the next start. Let him ride it till he stumbles

It would be nice for Ortio to lead Adirondack to a championship, but the NHL is a top priority. He deserves another start after that SO. Who knows, maybe he's ready to be the #1.

I voted to trade Ramo, but I think you give Ortio another start, then trade either Hiller or Ramo (whoever fetches the best return) if Ortio does really well. Otherwise, send him down and continue with Hiller / Ramo.

Ahh, 1985-86. 9 players with over 20 goals (counting Mullen and Tonelli). Hunter, Baxter, Sheehy and Fotiu lurking around. Suter/MacInnis/Loob/Otto/Pepper/Reinhart/Patterson/Macoun/Vernon/Quinn all 25 and under.

And of course, Steve Smith.

I know it'll never happen, but I prefer Ramo to Hiller. I don't like Hiller's style I guess. Maybe its just years of being spoiled watching Kiprusoff in net and getting accustom to that particular style. I would love to see a Ramo/Ortio tandem in the near future, albeit not immediately.
Hiller has been grossly inconsistent for a couple seasons now. Played great for the first month here and has been average at best since.
That being said, Ramo has had a couple bad games too and should have been able to take the torch and run this year but hasn't. I still prefer him to Hiller tho

If Minnesota was willing to discuss the possibility of their first being on the table for Hiller (caveat if they fail to make the playoffs, then the pick is their 2016 1st instead), I would jump at that.

How come there is no "Move Hiller" option? That's what I'd prefer

If Hartley has been saying all year, that whoever wins gets the chance to take the ball and run with it, then that game against the canucks speaks volumes of his performance. After he gives an outing like that, if you're Hartley I'd almost say you owe him another start at least. He's earned it. If a goaltender wins you a game where you're heavily outshot (with numerous quality scoring chances to boot) you ride the hot hand. Also improves competition and gets the other two netminders motivated.

I think the flames should consider moving Hiller too. Give Ortio another start. I think Ramo would be better if he can settle down a little. hiller is good, but I prefer Ramo
