Some people have a hard time with the starkness of the prairies and eight months of brown grass and no vegetation. I know a few people from Ontario and a lot from BC who moved back because they didn't like the landscape here.

I know there are quite a few individuals from Quebec in the area (Canmore mainly) who are working basic service jobs such as house keeping, front desk, stock boy, busing tables, waitressing etc. and often comment it's better that way barely scraping by than back in Quebec (Don't take my word for it though). This being said, they fly back or drive back to Quebec around 2-3 times a year and often work a second job doing some type of tourism gig in Canmore or Banff area to get free/discounted skiing or fishing etc. That being said, I oddly enough cannot think of many individuals I have met from Quebec in the professional field. A handful at most and often their face lights up when they realize they can have a half decent conversation in French.

As others have said, get a job lined up first either through a direct company or a temp agency. Also do lots of research on accommodations as housing is probably the most expensive part of coming over. I'm sure you can make do with wages day by day doing hourly shift work wherever, but I doubt that's ideal. Likely, working through a temp agency will be the best way to get into a higher paying role, but don't get your hopes up.

This is assuming you're single individual in your 20s.
