Yep found it ...

It Gets worse!

This one sprung on Murray and the Ducks after the deal was done.

Quote:
After Winter and Murray came to terms on a two-year contract at $1.65 million a season, Lowe picked up the phone and informed Winter there was a condition to completing the trade -- that Comrie make a payment of $2.5 million to the Oilers to "top up" the transaction.

was it not a repayment of his signing bonus? Basically, the grease gave Comrie money for signing in Edmonton and then when he wanted out Lowe tried to get him to give it back.

Unbelievably illegal under the CBA these days. Every rep under the sun would be hanging Lowe from the rafters by his thumbs if he tried that nonsense.

I don't think it matters if Edmonton ever got Perry, he would turn into a Taylor Hall anyways with the coaching and culture up there..

Well we are talking about Lowe so the answer is yes.

From what I remember, the Oilers had to give Comrie a very bonus laden ELC sinche he had that loophole (college player going to the WHL). So when Mike earned all his bonuses, the Oilers felt that he was overpaid in his ELC compared to his 2nd contract (which the Oilers ended up blowing up with the Vanek offer sheet anyway), so they wanted Mike to cut them a cheque for the money back

It probably woudlnt' have been allowed by Bettman or Goodenow but it just goes to show Lowe's arrogance.

I wonder if the Oilers already had Smid with that 1 rounder, who they would've gotten from the Ducks instead as part of the Pronger trade.

is that what it was, or was it because Comrie had negotiated a bonus based upon PPG, and that he claimed an injury after warm up in his last game because he was worried he would fall out of the PPG average?

You, Kevin Lowe... are an absolute genius!!!

Edmonton is no good.

I've never heard that before.

This is the first I’ve heard of that.

However, it is not the first I’ve heard of Kevin Klownshoes demanding blood money out of Comrie to trade him. As far as I know, not even the Oilers denied that report when it came out. And that was a bush-league (and illegal) move, no matter what motivated Klownshoes to do it.

Kevin Lowe should have just taken store credit from 'The Brick'.

And a decade later we see where sound decision making like that helped get the Oilers to where they are today!
