There is a larger protest point which is why in Sweden (and other parts of Europe) they have formed their own political party. They do not have much traction or influence in these governments with only .63% of the popular vote in Sweden.
"The Pirate Party believes that people with an access to free communication, culture and knowledge grow, feel better and create a more enjoyable and humane society for everyone to live in. We see modern information technology opening up possibilities for people to take action for their own lives and participate in affecting the development of society. We see how a freer flow of information enables thoughts, cultural creation and the economy to grow."
They claim it isn't about theft (aka the vast majority of their sites usage) but rather having an open and transparent conduit for public viewing of government actions. This explains their support for organizations like wikileaks.

I'll try to find it later.

Money, cars, houses etc. Same thing they did to Kim dot com. They seized damn near everything that was in his name. The movie and record companies are getting their money bone way or another. They just want people charged so they can pursue civil suites after the fact. This isn't about anything other than money.

Except with Kim Dot Com and MegaUpload there was actually one company and a single person with a ton of assets to seize. And considering the illegality of how that situation was handled, I doubt it gets easily repeated.
With Pirate Bay and other similar sites, there is no millionaire owner to arrest. Just people that run it who probably own very little.
I get what you're saying, but don't agree that the record companies are actually getting anything back. They are just trying to abuse government power to stop what they see in their mind as something that is hurting their business.

some of you would be shocked how much a torrent site can make in advertising revenue, especially the worlds largest

Well if that one poster was to be believed that CP makes six figures in advertising per year. Then by my math pirate bay must make...eleventy billion dollars a year.

Six figures? I have no clue, but wouldn't a forum/messaging board make less because most visitors are returning?
Advertising dollars aren't considering an asset though. And neither are users if you ask Slava.

I must have missed that, but why and how would users of a forum be considered an asset?

If they ever go after end users, then half of the people who use the internet are going to jail for a long long time.

I'm thinking the same people who frequent these sites, use ad blockers in their browser...but hey, if a company wants to pay to advertise, who am I to question it...

Conversation was about why apps like Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram and others were worth billions. All they have for assets is their users.
And apparently to some people that is worth a lot of money because it could potentially translate into revenue if they can monetize the app.

Copies of TPB fit on a USB stick and there were previously tens of thousands of downloads for the TPB backup. If someone can start up a load balancer, the backups can be used to spawn a new continuity of the site rather quickly. Cut off one head, two more will take it's place. Hail Hydra!
In all seriousness it's just a matter of who would be willing the shoulder the risk of restarting the site at this point as the backups are readily available.

some do, most don't...I used to own a large torrent site, granted it was 6 or 7 years ago. I have also worked as a media buyer for some large gaming companies. TPB has (had?) very high pricing and there was a waiting list to buy. Trust me they were doing well

.cr came online pretty much since .se went down
They have definitely had issues getting things up and running though so access and ability to search at times have been hampered.

I was just referencing a poster who said CP deleted the sexy lady thread because of advertising reasons and CP makes over six figures in advertising money. He came accross as someone who just learned how Facebook and Google make their money.
I honestly don't know how much money those sites make. But considering the traffic is people who want things free for that must play a large role. Plus those ads are for sketchy things.

Repeat visitors aren't going to make you much money. And CP is largely made up of repeat visitors. I'm sure it is enough to cover the costs of server hosting.

It is a fake reproduction trying to charge money for torrents. The real Pirate Bay files have been restored by ISOHunt. It can be found here now.

Odd I haven't found anything I've downloaded on .cr to be suspicious yet. My usual uploaders are there.

I noticed the EZTV site has been down since the TPB raid (or before, it had been a few days since I had been there) as well.
