Sharks are playing a lot better since last time we met. As much as I enjoy the 3rd period comebacks, this is one game we can't afford to gamble like that as I think it will be a much tougher test. Common boys, git 'er done!!

Oh sure, the smile on Matt Stajan’s face has a little to do with the fact he’ll be back in the lineup Saturday night following a lengthy knee injury.
However, what’s abundantly clear as he puts his arm around his wife, Katie, is that his happiness has far more to do with what she’s holding in her hands.
With both palms gently framing her tummy, Katie looks up with a grin that rivals his.
“We’re seven months pregnant,” she beams as Matt pulls her in for a loving squeeze.

An assistant captain with the Calgary Flames who is as respected and beloved in the dressing room as anyone given his selfless play and endearing personality, Matt was showered with support from his teammates and told to take as much time as he needed away from the game.
His wife needed him and he needed his wife as they dealt with the darkest days of their lives.
“It is a process,” said Katie.
“Sometimes people forget when they see you, you’re smiling and happy — and we are — but you are adjusting to your new normal.
“We found this quote that has really resonated with us: ‘You never get over the loss of a loved one, you just learn to live with it.’ And that’s what we’ve done. And we’ve tried to move forward never forgetting Emerson, always keeping him in our thoughts and our hearts. Some days are definitely harder than others but we just try to adjust to life in our new normal and never forget him.”

“The support we had was unbelievable,” said Matt.
“Katie always says it best — we felt like we got a big hug from the whole city of Calgary, the hockey world and that’s on top of our family and friends who were unbelievable through the toughest time of our lives. They went through it all, too, and it was tough on them as well.”

“We wanted to do something like this to honour our son and keep his legacy alive, but also to thank the community of Calgary, our friends, our families and everybody at the NICU,” said Katie, brimming with enthusiasm.
“We want to bring awareness to the NICU and just how incredible the work is that they do. And we want to help any other families that may find themselves in NICU one day and hope they have a positive experience.”

On the knob of all Stajan’s sticks are the letters A.E.S., which stands for Angel Emerson Stajan — a powerful reminder of what was and what will be as they prepare to welcome another son.
“We’re really, really excited — for it to happen so quickly after everything happened we know how fortunate we are and we feel little Emerson had something to do with that,” said Matt, who has watched the last 16 games from the sideline as the Flames have shocked the NHL.
“Hopefully it’s going to be a nice spring for us and hopefully for our hockey team.”

As important this game is for the sharks (and it is), it's sunday's game that really worries me. If the sharks become the first western conf team to lose to EDM, the shame will be intolerable and the sharks have a pretty weak history with alberta back to backs. I'm almost hoping for a poor showing today in CGY so they will be really hungry on Sunday.

But the last CGY/SJ game was pretty entertaining for a low scoring game. CGY has an entertaining style of play and the speediness forces the sharks to play quick too. We'll see if the recent success will continue, but I'll point out that in the sharks three consecutive wins, they gave up 10 goals - not usually a recipe for success.

Hey Landshark, great to see ya!

How you feeling about the team this year? Do you think changes are coming? To me it looks like SJ is finally (not happily, but they've been a top 5 point team in the regular season for a very long time now, so finally in that respect) starting a slide in their strength.

Course I'm no expert and many believe SJ is just having a slow start and will kick it into gear any game now. Hopefully not tonight!

Don't worry. I've PVR'd and watched the game later (out of necessity) for every game during this winning streak. Tonight I can watch live, but I'm still going to PVR and watch later. We'll see whose mojo is stronger.

I don't believe in superstition, but the last 3 come back wins happened after I removed my jersey. They have never won when I've worn it. I'm not wearing it tonight

They've worn them against Tampa, Nashville, Ottawa, and New Jersey this season. They're 3-0-1 in those 4 games.

Based on the pregame videos, it looks like they'll be wearing them tonight.
