You don't. The plans call for you to stay and explore. You go knowing your never coming back.

Incorrect, there are ways to come back, NASA or any major org will not do a mission with people unless they can come back.

Sorry Ken, meant to say government org's, Mars one I'm very familiar with, a good friend of mine is still in the running to go.

NASA, ESA, etc.. they will not plan a trip that has no return trip for their people.

What an amazing time we live in. Streaming video from space ... live.

I always wonder what happens to those boosters and panels that fall off. I assume they just splashdown in the Atlantic, but it still seems so crazy!

Pretty much, they aren't going fast enough to reach orbit.

It's almost at the atmosphere now.

If he was alive today, Sagan would deliver to us some inspirational quote.. so lets make due with what we have from his past.

This analyst thinks the orion mission has a lot to do with an asteroid tracking earth's orbit.

This particular spacecraft isn't designed to land on Mars, first planned manned mission to Mars will just orbit the planet and come back.

I guess it would prove we can go there and back but to me it's somewhat a waste of time. They need boots on the ground IMO.

One minute in he says the earth and all the planets are connected magnetically to the sun and that's why we stay in orbit around the sun, so yeah not a good source at all.

EDIT: Lol he doesn't even know the name of the mission. He says he's watching the mission closely and he thinks "Oreon" has something to do that asteroid, but we all watched the mission and we know it had nothing to do with it. Will he post a video saying he was wrong?

Of course not, our brains are hard-wired to find patterns even where they don't exist. He looks at solar weather information, earthquake data, meteor showers from "exploded" comets (which is wrong), and thinks he sees patterns but that's because he doesn't actually keep rigorous track of his own predictions and observations.

Without any rigour cognitive biases rule, one being the less knowledgeable someone is the less able they are to recognize their own ignorance and instead have false confidence. http://theness.com/neurologicablog/i...unning-kruger/

EDIT2: Oh yeah I forgot I was going to say no one better tell him there's like 10,000 near earth objects discovered so far.

I didn't want to post more as I wasn't sure if the poster was making fun of the article or actually believed it.

Personally I think that we should take our time going to Mars, take some time and a bit of extra money and show up in something like this, well rested, well fed and lookin forward to conquering mars. Plus think of the tourist industry.

Seriously, though, are they really going to send people on a year long round trip in that tiny capsule?

Good writeup by Phil Plait that sums up some of the concerns about the SLS out there.
