I don't know if they were a pairing.. but Lidstom was 1st and Chelios was 2nd in the voting in 01-02 as teammates.

For the first time in a dog's age, I'm excited to watch the All-Star game. I can't recall the last time we had two deserving players. I suspect these two will be selected without question.
Any thoughts on whether any of our forwards are in the conversation? Hudler?

Vote for Brodie if you want to see that happen. Last I checked he was trailing the usual suspects.

Yes hudler and they always have this rookie thing so Johnny hockey, maybe granlund and jooris?
Monahan has impressed me but not enough to get too much consideration.
Wideman hasn't been bad but same thing as monahan.

Votes only count for the starters. The coaches will select the remaining players, and I would expect that Brodie would be on every one of those lists that this point.

Giordano is awesome, and even though I didn't expect him to continue his dominance from last year, Brodie has by far been the surprise story this year.
Brodie is half forward, half defenseman. The way he can join the rush and be the first one back is just amazing to watch. These two guys are the main reason why we are winning games.

Remember when Bob Hartley said Brodie didn't know how good he can be? I didn't believe him then, but wow

Between the two of them it's like having 6 skaters on the ice. Their speed is almost unfair.

Agreed. The way that guy stays moving is unreal. So glad they are getting credit. Obviously guys really focus on them and I am sure they are our most studied players.. Still successful.

After the win in Phoenix Giordano said that Brodie was the best player on the team. This could just be standup leadership from a good team captain, but lately I have been thinking that this is probably true. His skating is outstanding—on another level compared to even the best skaters in the NHL.

Don't kid yourself, Gio still drives the car here. Brodie has nights where he does, but Gio has more points, more ice and still the go to guy. He's just also a great leader and wants Brodie to have confidence

Probably. I'm just giddy at the prospect of having a Norris calibre defenseman on the roster behind Giordano, who is still not even 25-years-old. Imagine how good Brodie will be in two years.

On the subject of Brodie, thinking about the newly inked contract just made me even happier to have him. The $'s and term is a steal!

There have been several games this year where I have said Brodie is even better than Giordano.
Giordano is the leader, obviously. And defensively, I don't think there is any question that he is the better player.
But for driving the offense and overall team play, Brodie is often the best player on the ice. His skating has become elite and he is discovering how to maximize it. It is Brodie that is the catalyst that defines this year's Flames.
Obviously he wouldn't be able to do that (to the same extent) without Giordano. But conversely, Gio wouldn't have the points he has either, if it weren't for Brodie.
It's too early to say Brodie is the best player on the team. But it's already close enough to debate.

This is exactly how I see things at present. It's exciting as a Flames fan to have an ongoing healthy debate about which players are indeed the team's best: be it Giordano, Brodie, Monahan, Hudler, Gaudreau—all of them belong in that conversation. And to make matters even more exhilarating, it is quite possible that the Flames best player in a couple of years has not yet even played a single game of professional hockey.

Are players not paid during the pre-season?

I think it is a telling comment by the Captain, which furthers my belief that he is infact one fo the best Captains in the league.
