The article was written by Craig Button, he is probably more familiar with the Flames than anyone else outside the organization. I don't doubt Craig's rankings but I'm guessing fans of other teams would claim bias.

I hope Johnny trains with Paul Byron this off-season, there both listed at 150 Lbs but Paul seems soo much stronger.

If the Flames could combine the best of Byron with the best of Gaudreau the Flames would have one hell of a player.

So if you put things in perspective the Flames have done pretty well in terms of award recognition.

If the Hart was actually awarded based on "player judged most valuable to his team" then Giordano would unquestionably be the favourite right now. But that award hasn't been given to the most valuable player for years. If it was Tavares would have won in the lockout season, Varlamov would have won last year... etc.

If they truly gave it to the most valuable player for his team, they'd have to stipulate it to be for a skater, since the goalie is MVP on the vast majority of teams. Pens, Flames, TB are exceptions that I can think of.
Of course, MVP's given out that way also penalize guys who have good or lucky GMs. It's not Crosby's fault he plays on a team with Malkin. It's not Doughty's fault Jonathan Quick is on his team.

That list is pretty easy to add to. Oilers, Sabres off the top of my head. Avalanche. Any team with two solid goalies like Minnesota.

Oilers and Sabres have no MVP, so they don't count. I agree on the dual goalie thing.
