He played nearly the full season last year, and this current injury happened before training camp.

I wouldn't put him in David Jones territory right now.

Yeah, I would still like to see Backlund on wing once our center depth improves.

I don't think he's made of glass as much as he keeps rushing himself back from injuries. Before this year, there was a gigantic gap at C that he needed to jump in for.

I want him back in this roster, badly, but I want him a longtime Flame more. Let's hope he really takes his time with this one before coming back as this has got to be a tough injury to really asses readiness.

Sorry guys,

The offense without him is just more creative and productive. Scared what will happen to the team when they give him the ceremonial 5 games back on the second line.

It's what I've said all along, he's a star under a GM that signed 4 centres, in which none of them were able to play centre. Cupboards aren't bare anymore, he's going to have to win his spot back, eventually.

Biggest disappointment is that Backlund keeps getting injured and it's different things every time.

Having backlund back will be huge for this team. Monahan is really coming into his own and if backs can take the big defensive assignments I think money can start putting up some big points.

Backlund is only a star on teams that have four signed centres.

Yeah it's either bad luck or maybe his body isn't durable enough for pro sports. It happens with some gifted athletes that have the skills but not the body. It's hard to say is he's ever going to be able to hit his peak potential because every time he starts looking like the player the Flames hoped they drafted he gets hurt and has to kickstart things all over again. Still only 25 but players peak by 27 so he's not getting to utilize his prime years.

Treliving says Backlund has a "weakening of the abdominal wall" and today's procedure was placing in a mesh plate.

So basically the same procedure as a hernia operation then.

Sounds like Backlund is in for a long recovery thank goodness Granlund has stepped up to fill the void.
It's too bad for Backlund he has turned himself into a reliable 2 way Center
All the best to Back's in his recovery.
