Injuries are what gave all those players (save Gaudreau who made the team) a shot with the big club.
I just don't think Setoguchi deserves a spot anymore. He's had 12 games and hasn't hit the scoresheet once. Remember all the fussing about his PP time?

Here are the scratches for every game that Setoguchi has played in. With the exception of 3 games, Setoguchi was never played over a healthy player other than McGrattan.
one of those times was over Bollig, and only because he was a right handed shot.
the other two times it was because Hartley wanted Reinhart and Jooris to watch the game

Setoguchi essentially replaced Galiardi (on a cheaper salary) and has been just as crap.
I would love it if Seto got his mojo back & went on a tear, though. It seems so strange to me that someone could go from being a legitimate sniper to being a player with ZERO points. Could Joe Thornton really have been the only reason Setoguchi used to get on the box score each game?

Now, I am by no means a physicist, but according to my calculations in order for a catapult to generate the required range the device itself would have to be approximately the size of Russia.
Now a trebuchet on the other hand....theres an idea we may be able to get behind!

You do realize/remember that Setoguchi has actually been a healthy scratch this season right? He's not "taking" anybody's roster spot.

maybe "the sun" is too optimistic?
maybe you should turn your attention northward?
thinking the catapult could be used as regular tool to send those that wander too far south, back, and players that have bad attitudes...
well you get the idea

You're right, the sun is a bit ambitious. Just land him on a comet.

Nope. He was at a .5 PPG in Minnie and his first year in Winnie. Can't say anything about the rest of his game though.

Waivers please.

I have no issue cutting him but was speaking about the gamble Treliving took. Was low risk so no harm done.

Ah injuries, a 2014 phenomen. Good thing they happened this year as opposed to every other year in the NHL, so that young players could get a chance to play despite Brad Treliving's best efforts to keep them down on the farm.

I can't believe people are blaming Treliving for Setoguchi's contract. It was a good calculated risk on giving a formerly very good player the proverbial last chance and everyone knew that. This is what Treliving said announcing the signing, I mean, come on - everything's on the table, no silly expectations:
Quote:
"I think he's a player who, in a lot of ways, is at the crossroads of his career and has realized that he needs to really try to dig in here and re-establish his career," general manager Brad Treliving told the Calgary Sun. "We think it's a good fit, and ultimately the way the contract is structured, it’s a mitigated risk and there's some upside here. ... Just talking to him and spending some time with him, I think he's a motivated player."
|
As for Galiardi's on waivers, is anyone surprised? There was something wrong with his game in Calgary. Lots of erratic movement and no production whatsoever, like Comeau. Bouma is what a Galiardi-like player should strive to achieve - energy, grit, force, distraction to other team.
