Too early but if this continues he would appear to be a shoo-in ...

Right now you have to think he's the front runner. If the Flames can continue thier magic it may just happen.

Some good candidates this year. Definitely Hartley should receive lots of consideration. I hate to say it, but Vancouver's Desjardins probably deserves a bit of consideration. Therrien probably deserves some consideration as well seeing as Montreal is sitting at the very top of the NHL at the moment (will win it if they finish there at the end of the season, which I highly doubt).

I think right now it is either Hartley or Laviolette from Nashville. Many predicted Nashville would have taken a huge step back this season with Trotz going to Washington. Many picked them to be running in the McEichel lottery this year. At this point in the season, I think these are by far the two favorites.

It's been thrown around in media already, so yeah, he seems like a front runner at this point. If we don't make the playoffs however...

When was the last time a non-playoff coach won Jack Adams?

As much as it sucks to send Ferland, Baerstchi, Knight and especially Granlund back to the farm, we need our established guys back. However, I wouldn't be upset if Treliving made a trade to open a spot. Granlund has very quietly done a phenomenal job. He might not have the defensive acumen that Backlund has yet, but he is an NHL player, no question. I wouldn't be opposed to a Backlund trade to get a solid Dman.
Outside of Raymond's speed and his scoring prowess early, we really don't need any of those guys back. Colborne is an asset because of his size - if he's contributing.

It's really nice for most of CP to believe that Backlund brings something to this team that we need. It's great to have a "shutdown" guy to play against the other teams "top line". But, you know what else is great? A guy like Josh Jooris, who just goes and pops in a goal or 2. And instead of old Brent Sutter hockey, trying to hold a one goal lead, we go and expand it or are actually able to come back from a few goals down.

I see room on the team for Backlund and Jooris.

If Hartley can shape up the team to play a solid and consistent 3 periods, and not a feverish last period catch-up, of course.

Just wow. Even putting aside your famously laughable views on Backlund, your post is still some incredible nonsense.

Baertschi-Knight-Setoguchi
Raymond-Backlund-Colborne

Yeah, that would make no difference at all...

How about we let the season play out and see if we win something more substantial than the Jack $#!+ award we currently hold for the season?

Not that simple, because you don't play Raymond-Backlund-Colborne for 6-7 minutes like you do those guys. These guys are our 15-20 minute players, so it`s probably guys like Johnny, Hudler, Granlund who get their minutes cut to even it out.

It's quite obvious that Where ru Chris O'Sullivan is a troll. He's laughing his arse off as he tells his friend about his trolling escapades. CP, do not feed the trolls.

Peter Laviolette is getting a lot out of that Nashville roster. Him and Hartley would have to be the early front runners.

And it doesn't matter, because you are definitely improving the team for those 7 minutes a game. And if Raymond, Backlund, and Colborne want to take ice time away from other forwards, they'll have to outperform them.

The '89 Flames had Theo Fleury and Jiri Hrdina playing on the fourth line, and in the playoffs, Hrdina spent most of his time in the pressbox. If you have so many good players that it's hard to find enough ice time for them all, that's a GOOD problem to have.

Hartley's certainly got the inside edge at the moment, with Desjardins and Laviolette getting some consideration too. The Flames, Preds and 'Nucks are all playing far better than just about anyone predicted.

But there's a lot of hockey left to play.

Not too soon - should have been nominated last year.

The great play in the third period has something to do with the in-game adjustments he is making.

Yeah, was going to say, great to have them back if they extend the games to 70 Mins. Otherwise, it's backs who's the 7 min. Centre - not replacing Jooris or Granlund and certainly not Monahan.

it is never too early in the season to start talking about things like potential playoff matchups, and winners of various awards.

in my mind, this covnersation should ahve been started on October 31st......
