The heart is the no where near my area of expertise, but I briefly read through your links. Based on the info present here, I would argue that it is the opposite of "well documented". These are not the studies that people base guidelines on. I see very poor controls, small samples, not great design. They certainly may be on to something... For now, IMO, it is simply not responsible/reasonable to tell people do stop doing fun stuff based on what you have presented.

I disagree and think you are biased. I think it's perfectly reasonable to tell people about it when endurance racers have such high rates of injury.

Why would you think he's biased? Because he doesn't agree with you?

I absolutely am biased. I love my newly re-discovered 5 hour all-mountain MTB rips. There is much stronger literature to back up my obese-arse cholesterol levels getting me before this extreme cardio-induced lower RV ejection fraction/myocardial fibrosis gets me. I'll wait for some longer term studies with some better controls before I sell my bikes.

From AcGold's own links:

However, this concept is still hypothetical and there is some inconsistency in the reported findings. Furthermore, lifelong vigorous exercisers generally have low mortality rates and excellent functional capacity. Notwithstanding, the hypothesis that long-term excessive endurance exercise may induce adverse CV remodeling warrants further investigation to identify at-risk individuals and formulate physical fitness regimens for conferring optimal CV health and longevity.

What you posted is some hypothesis based on unknown variables. How long is long distance? How often must you do these to have long term detrimental damage? Some studies were looking at marathons, others ultra marathons and triathalons.
