Canucks facing the 28th best defensive team, on the second night of a back to back, with their back up in net. Oh yeah, the back up is Dubnyk.
And the Canucks can't score

Gagner with 2 assists and Dubnyk with a 35 save shutout. It's nice to see the Oilers don't permanently ruin their first round draft picks.
Dubnyk still does not have a regulation loss this season (in 4 starts). His GAA and SV% are now both better than Scrivens or Fasth.

It must be like taking off a 200 pound backpack when you get traded from the Oil.

I have watched the replays and reviews of the goal from various video angles now a whole bunch of times, and this is absolutely not "clearly" the case. The original camera view of it looks good, and the referee is standing right to the side of the goal and in full view of Hanzel's tip. In short, he had the best view of everyone and called it a good goal. The available video angles don't provide enough information to overturn the original call, and it remains a good goal. The end result: Canucks fans are sad.

Interesting stat:
Iain MacIntyre @imacVanSun
Among goalies with at least 8 appearances, Ryan Miller's save rate of .902 is 28th in the NHL. But leads with 11 wins.

That means Miller is not exactly stealing games.

@sportsnetirf
After 2nd period interview with Hanzal he told me he didn't know how his second goal counted. #highstick #Canucks #Coyotes
I mean it didn't matter anyways and I realize the league gets things wrong from time to time, I know you guys have been screwed over(Gelinas-04), but to me that was no goal.

When Miller loses he loses big, but he also looks great in wins

Yeah. I was saying this to my Canuck fan friend. He's incredibly good in wins and waaaay below average in losses. That was why St Louis didn't want him anymore. He was great for quite a few games there too

That did look like a clear highstick but the refs called it a goal and they didn't have a definitive view that could show a high stick. They need to get some cameras at ice level for high sticks. Basically impossible to tell from high up cameras so you're relying on the net cam not being blocked by the goalie.

Yes, goalies tend to look better in wins. But Miller's Dr. Jekyll isn't extraordinarily good:
In Miller's wins, his sv% is .930
In Hiller's wins, his sv% is .940

930 save percentage in wins, 759 in losses. My guess would be that save percentage in wins is fairly average (914 is the average save percentage but winning goalies would likely be higher).
I think in the end Miller, like Hiller is a fairly average goalie at this point in their careers.

Similar to what Ken Dryden described as a 'bad team goalie' in The Game:
Was it Mike Palmateer of the Leafs that he used as an example? Dryden's point was that he could go out and steal a win on his own, but on other nights he would let in some softies but it didn't matter because bad teams are gonna Oil anyway.
St Louis, considering themselves to be legitimate contenders, would want no part of an inconsistent goalie.
Whereas Vancouver's expectations this year were a little more modest and the occasional bad game is easier to overlook.

Are they expecting that fit two more years after this?
