Refining heavy crude is what Louisiana does best, it's refiners have geared their processes over the last few years to Alberta heavy. In addition Alberta heavy comes to them cheaper than the shale light, so they prefer it. Certainly the refiners in Louisiana want Keystone XL, and they are big well paying employers in that state.

Both Texas and Louisiana have refineries that would benefit from the pipeline.

Maybe it's reverse psychology, since the Republicans shoot down everything proposed by Obama and the Democrats, the Republicans will vote against this bill too.

Patoka IL is a major hub. Oil brought in from Keystone will be pipelined on existing, or reversed, pipelines down to the Louisiana pipelines

I don't see why Obama would squander the one positive from a republican house and senate, it's a 'get out of jail free' card for this issue, he can pretend he's against it but just going along with the will of the electorate.
Just because environmentalists support the dems it doesn't mean the dems are actually environmentalists

He does that and he's just proving to the public that the Republicans are right, he's the one blocking anything from being done and not them. No way he vetoes it

The problem is that while people are dissatisfied with the government as a whole, they generally like the individual who represents them locally. People think the problems are caused by the idiots that someone else elected.

The deal with the Chinese is like the deal with the Devil. That deal only stands until the Chinese decide it isn't in their best interests.

The XL portion of the pipeline is only the green section shown.
Steele City, NB to Cushing, OK and on to Port Arthur, TX is already in the ground.

It's really a dumb project for America because the Oil isn't even staying in the US. It's just getting transported down south so it can be exported from the gulf instead.
|
This is completely untrue. The Gulf Coast Extension of Keystone ends at the Nederland Texas terminal. From there it can be put onto oil tanker ships or transported via other pipelines to the Port Arthur and Houston refineries. There is also a rail terminal there for transport to other facilities.
The Houston Lateral is being built to come off of the Gulf Coast Extension and will feed the Houston area refineries.
While some of the oil may ultimately be exported via the Gulf, it is a myth that the pipelines entire capacity of 830,000 bpd would be exported. The vast majority of that oil will be refined in the US.

Environmentalism for the dems is like the NRA for the repug's it's good politics, no more. They would throw over either of them if they thought it would win them more votes

It'll be passed in both houses, Obama will dig in and veto it because he doesn't want to disenfranchise his and his parties greatest source of funding and fundraisers.
His approval rating will plummet.
Then it will be open war between the houses and Obama and he will limp to the finish line with no legacy.

From hearing obamas comments today, he made it sound like it only benefits canada and not americans in any way. They (canada) want to use our land to ship their oil to other countries.
As far as i know this would still create jobs for americans.
