AC/DC didn't come here the last time because it was an outdoor setup. They played the dome their previous 2 tours (95 and 2000)

Ah, ok. So it was '95 that I got blitzed out of my mind.

I've heard that Edmonton is always on the back of the t-shirt because they always sell out and the Edmontonites buy all the stuff for sale. AC/DC could show up three times a year in that town and they'd fill the building and clean out the merchandise stands every time.

I personally don't give a rat's patoot if U2 or Taylor Swift ever darken the door, but obviously some people do, so it would, I suppose, be nice to have a venue that could support their apparatus in Calgary.

I don't want to pay for it though, so hopefully the highrollers who build such things don't convince the government to ask me to chip in.
I do think this is part of it as well, Edmonton possibly just spends more on tickets/merch than Calgary. And as silly as it might seem, playing the "capital" of the province may carry a bit more weight then you'd think.

Many of these same tours likely do Toronto and not Ottawa, Montreal and not Quebec City. So it's not entirely unique that big tours pick only one major city in each province/market.

Situation figures to only get worse when the new arena opens up north. Bigger problem is Calgary has very poor secondary venues, there's Mac Hall which is alright at about 4,000 people, and then the Corral completely blows at around 8,000 or so. So really there's not a decent venue from about 4,000 to 14,000 people, and outdoor shows are essentially prohibited by the locals around McMahon.

Nah, they skipped the Dome on their 2008 tour. I had to fly out to Vancouver and see them at Rogers Arena.

Paul McCartney, Justin Timberlake, Usher, Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, Lady Gaga, Cher, Pink.....all concerts that have skipped the Dome in the last year or so. It's not everyones cup of tea but those are massive concerts that a city like Calgary should be having.

Metallica must like something about Calgary because they came here twice on the same tour, within a span of about six weeks, back in 2004.

Maroon 5 is skipping Calgary on their next tour. The other two I was totally incorrect. Apologies!

I mean no offense to Calgary at all and in no way am I trying to troll. I am a Calgarian at heart, cheer for the Flames, and think that Calgary is far superior in almost every way.

Fact is that the turnout and atmosphere is wayyy different between the two cities. I am a bit of a concert nut and often will travel between the two cities to see the same band. In multiple occasions, the aura, atmosphere, and turnout were in higher levels. If I want to get close to a stage and think that a less-atmospheric with smaller turnout, I will see a band in Calgary. If I want to get into a crap-packed crowd with tonnes of people who are super-excited about the band, I will go to it in Edmonton.

Actually, newish scoreboards make ours look like your mother's 13" bedroom TV. The size of screens in places like Tampa, Colorado, MSG, Vancouver (iirc) is ridiculous. At the Rangers game last year, the jumbotron was almost clearer and in better definition than the players on the ice below it!
