Long story short, Johnny won't be getting traded until he hits his UFA years and even then I hope every effort is taken to keep him. and only then will we know what his trade value is.
To maximize the return on a trade, you have to trade while the player is hot.

Would he improve? probably
Does he the ideal size which Burke/Treliving have wanted? no
would he likely get a career ending injury in the near future? likely at that size

All it takes is a miss spin or a miss move and it's game over for Johnny

Getting another 1st rounder in the deep 2015 draft would be a win. We need to trade now or soon

Johnny is the type of player you hope to draft in the first round.

Why would you want to trade him for a first rounder that you HOPE will turn out to be the type of gamebreaking player that Gaudreau is showing he is?

Who cares that he was drafted in the fourth round? It doesn't make a lick of difference today.

Maybe we can get a package of Rico Fata, Daniel Tkaczuk, Leland Irving and Chris Chucko for him. Four first rounders for a fourth rounder!

Discuss!

Boom goes the dynamite.

Keeping Johnny Gaudreau would be a win.

I get it, the 2015 draft is supposed to be amazing.

But why would a rebuilding team want to trade a player they put so much effort into, only to trade him and wait for another prospect to develop? We need talent like Johnny on this team. He may be our most valuable trading piece, but he's not worth trading.

Wouldn't make sense to trade him for someone you hope to be as good. And no contending team is gonna trade anything near what we are looking for. Johnny is like every teams dream. Our potential datsyuk

Even discussing this is idiotic.

He is not being shopped or traded and discussing his trade value is a waste of time.

His size is irrelevant when discussing a career ending injury. Any player can have a career ending injury. What good was Lindros size when he kept getting concussed?

I think Gaudreau is a generational talent. Yes I said it.

So I wouldn't trade him, but if I had to, it would be for something ridiculous like two first round picks, two blue chip prospects and a young roster player.

Where's the win when Johnny has been clotheslined by some goon and has to sit out for the rest of the season with a concussion?

even if he comes back from a concussion, what's the gaurentee that he'll play as well as he did?

We've seen how Lombardi has played after getting elbowed by Hatcher

obviously it's against popular opinion, but a trade is possible with Treliving/Burke at the helm so isnt that worth discussing?

Did you really just make a comparison between Lombardi and Gaudreau?
