If you're a Flames fan or longtime Calgarian around 32 years old or older, there is likely zero doubt...and it's likely never "subject to change". The Oilers organization and their fans, all the way, and there's really no doubt or comparison.

Don't get me wrong, the new breed of Canucks fans since the early 2000's are obnoxious, and their teams are not likeable, but it has never come anywhere near the same intense rivalry or genuine hatred as it was through the 80's and early 90's, and always will be, between Calgary and in Edmonton and the Flames and the Oilers. The hatred between cities gets fed by sport, but transcends just sport.

It's equal for me. It used to be the Canucks but they aren't relevant anymore so that closed the gap.

I think there are, and historically have been players on the Canucks that I hate more than any Oilers player since at least the late 1990s.

But when I look at the standings, I am pretty indifferent when I see the Canucks ahead of us. When I see the Oilers ahead of us, it boils my blood (fortunately, it doesn't happen a lot anymore). I also hate losing to the Oilers more than the Canucks.

So I would have to say that I hate the Oilers more.

I'll be one of the ones that says the Oilers. I wasn't alive to be around for the bitter 80's rivalry between the Oilers and Flames... I haven't been around for very much hockey at all so far in my life actually, but their delusional, arrogant fanbase just feeds the hate. The team's laziness, lack of heart, entitlement, even the awful color scheme - yeah, it's basically all there. I've watched a few vintage games from the 80's though. Hate the grease of the past, hate the grease of the present, hate the grease of the future. Oilers fans are often so cocky that it's nice seeing them spin down the toilet again and again.

And also I don't really like the way Vancouver media talks about the Flames (granted, that's probably supposed to be expected) - but it's just the sense where they are so arrogant about their team that they feel the need to bash the Flames even though the blue and green have never won anything truly significant. The Canucks are scumbags and so are a lot of the fans (see: rioting), but dare I say if the Oilers ever made the playoffs and got matched up against Canucks... I would hope the Canucks win over the Oilers. Because there's no worry or evidence that the nucks will ever take it any further, choking is their thing. But let's be real, the Coil are a long ways off of the playoffs, nonetheless a Cup.

God that just put a bad taste in my mouth. Is there some way for both teams to lose if that ever happens??

Honestly all three teams (us included) are so bad right now it's tough to have the rivalries as intense as they have been in the past.

Bashing Edmonton (and their fans) has almost become like the kid you used to pick on until an adult informed you there's something developmentally wrong with them and now it's tough to maintain the animosity in light of that fact.

Vancouver and their fans have been absolutely humbled in recent years. They were internationally outed as unsavoury hooligans and in the aftermath of them tearing down parts of their own city in that epic hissy fit the league as a whole seemed to catch on to their gut-less approach to the game. They were shamed on and off the ice. They're now clearly an aging team with a few years of declining on the horizon before they tear it down and become bottom feeders.

Hard to feel anything but sorry for both of them at this point.

Since both are pretty bad I don't really care these days. Id love to see a true battle of Alberta again with both teams being elite so Id have to say the Oilers. A playoff matchup would be unreal. Until then being the best of the worst doesn't do much for me.

Canucks and it's not even close. I lived on west coast for years though and had to deal with their BS

Based solely on the team? Oilers. Based on the fanbase? The Canucks.

What do I hate most? Fans of any team who cheer for losses, for a better draft position.

/me climbs carefully down from his soapbox.

The Oilers I hate in a mockingly way. But at least they are fun to mock. Good harmless fun. Canucks are a different kind of hate. A hate of an ideology. I hate them because they don't deserve success. At least the Oilers have had that.

During last Vancouver vs. Montreal game I found myself begrudgingly cheering for the Canucks. Tonight's Vancouver Edmonton game I'll probably half assedly cheer for the Oilers. I'm not sure where I would put the Jets in all of this letter, but I would probably cheer for them over the Canucks or Canadiens and cheer for the Oilers over the Jets. So for me the hate level for those 4 franchises goes as follows:

Montreal (most hated)
Vancouver
Winnipeg
Edmonton (least hated)

Yes I know that's blasphemy around these parts, but the Oilers players aren't really the type that you can hate. Their fans are also the only ones out of the bunch where I can sit beside them at a game and strike up an intelligent conversation about hockey.

For me, Edmonton is a rivalry - is the rivalry.

Vancouver is hate. I hate their team, I hate their fans, and I hate their self-righteous, delusional media. I hate the subtle - and sometimes not so subtle - insults towards Alberta. I don't like them and I don't even enjoy it when the Flames play them (because I have to put up with them).

Conversely, playing the Oilers is fun.

In their current versions, the Canucks have more truly unlikeable players (Bieska, Burrows, Sestito), although they're slightly better than last year without Torts and Kesler. The Oilers players are more pitiful than unlikeable. Their management and coaches are easy to dislike.

Historically, and for all time, my hatred for all things Oilers will never diminish.
