I'm a big Oshie fan. I think he's exactly the kind of player to spend assets on, as long as it's not completely insane.

Which "incubent forwards" are being referred to in this article? Could Oshie be one of them? Steen, Backes or Berglund? There are some great forwards there...

Some love for Steve Nash:

Quote:
30. On the morning of the gold medal hockey game at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, I walked into the IHOP next to the rink. Out came Steve Nash. I said, “Don’t you have practice today?” He didn’t break a smile. “I told (coach Don Nelson) to fine me.” A year or two later, he was preparing to play for Canada as a number of other NBAers were being told to sit. I asked him about it. “(Nelson) said, ‘I don’t want to see you playing for Canada this summer.’ I told him he better not turn on his TV,” Nash replied. When Jason Kidd was traded to Phoenix, Canadian reporters worried for his career. He simply said, “Everything will be okay.” Boy, was it ever. What a spectacular career.

Has anybody watched many Blues games this year? Curious as to what Oshie's struggles are. 1 point, -1 in 7 Games. Just a slow starter?

Ashasx brings up a great point in Rattie. Would it make sense for us to go after him? The Rattie/Baertschi threat in the WHL could possibly be revived.

Going after Rattie because the Flames like him as a player and his potential is fine. His junior chemistry with Baertschi should have exactly zero weight in evaluating the acquisition.

I think the Blues win the Cup with this Hiller. If he stays healthy and consistent then I think he will successfully get his career back on track and there will be 3-4 contenders that see him as an upgrade or insurance: St Louis and Pitts to name a couple.

Could possibly be revived. Never said it would.

Don't know the exact reason, but he's also not as good (scoring wise) at least as most people think.

I think St. Louis is horribly overrated and won't even get a sniff of the Western Conference final. Plus they have Jay Bouwmeester playing a significant role on their team. That pretty much guarantees they won't win anything.

With both players below expectations, it's worth a discussion whether it's Sven moving to St. Louis or Rattie coming here.

I would take Rattie just because we could really use a natural RW prospect with his talent.

The potential for chemistry with Baertschi would just be a bonus.

I was going to ask the same thing. Rattie has been a goal scorer in every league thus far. 30 goal scorer in the AHL and looks to be headed that way again (at least).

I haven't watched him play since the WHL though.

Let's trade Sven for Rattie. Both can have a fresh start.

I've been watching Gaudreau since he was 13 years old and have been watching Matthew Peca for the last three years...comparing the two is ludicrous. I have never seen a hockey player like Gaudreau. There are tons of Peca's, particularly in college hockey...smallish and skilled but not extremely dynamic like Gaudreau.

On a side note, Toews is listed at 6'2". I have always had a hard time buying that. Getzlaf and Bouwmeester are both listed as 6'4". There is no way (at least in the picture above) that Toews is only 2" shorter than them

I am 5'10" and when I stood beside Toews I was taller than him.

Those cardboard cutouts of hockey players at Sportchek aren't to scale you know...

Like another poster mentioned earlier in this thread, I could only really see a Ramo / Hiller interest coming from the Blues, and it wouldn't likely materialize before the TD. I would be interested in Rattie though. Solid RW prospect from Airdrie!

Friedman specifically mentions "incumbent forwards" as players who the Blues might be interested in shopping. I wonder who he was referring to. Rattie is a prospect & has yet to make a sizeable impact in the NHL, so no: he is not who the article is referring to. Sure, Rattie might be an interesting kid to acquire, but there is nothing in this article to suggest he's available.

The article specifically mentions Tarasenko, Schwartz & Stastny as emerging new talent which might make the "incumbent forwards" expendable. Other than Ott who is dead weight in St Louis that Friedman is implying could be available?
