why is that an lol?

They want to put him in the minors to get work.

Meanwhile, they have him as an insurance backup.

Seems pretty straight-forward.

That means they think Hutchinson is better now than Budaj. Not sure I would agree with that. Why trade for a guy just to waive him and expose him? (not that anyone is likely going to pick him up) Why not just wait until Budaj was put on waivers by Montreal in the first place? Just because they didn't want to be forced to keep him in the NHL all year? Was it just a deal for Holland and Budaj was thrown in? Seems like a lot of movement for little actual help for the big club.

I wondered this too, so I went and looked at his stats. Paints a bit of a picture anyways.

Had 25 goals, 84 assists for 109 pts, +42 the year we moved him.

His transition to the AHL seemingly hasn't gone as well.

69 gp, 10g, 18a, for 28 pts. and a -12 in his first AHL season in Hamilton.

Last year he played 57 games, scored 6 and had 11 assists for 17 pts and a -5.

He also got into 5 games with the Habs with no points. He will be 23 next January.
