Could Care Less

I have no real opinion on who's better overall at this point, they both look pretty solid. Each has their positives and negatives. I'm happy they will push each other this season and honestly, I'm not looking for an emergence of one over the other. My gut says it will be a tandem all year and that's ok, I think we can find success with that.

I've been impressed with Ramo. I think given his history with the team, he should be given the edge to start. I'm comfortable with him in net, confident even.
I'm sure Hiller is good too, just haven't seen enough of him yet to know for sure. Certainly hard to blame him for the loss against the Nucks.
As another poster said, I'm comfortable with either but would rather see Ramo get the nod a bit more often.

I thought Ramo had a better pre-season (and looked great last night), but both have looked solid enough.
Like someone mentioned above, give em 10 games each in the first 20 and make a judgment call after that. I suspect we'll see them basically splitting time and running with one or the other if they get hot.

We had two reliable goalies 10 years ago? I remember just one.
So really this is the first time in my life as a Flames fan where I trust both goalies.

I like the idea of having a good even split between the two goaltenders. Too dependable goalies that are well rested for 40 starts each can potentially be better than a stellar Kipper forced to play 76 games a year!

To me Hiller looked shaky against the nucks but Ramo looked good against the oil. I wanna see Ramo play against an NHL team before I make my final judgement though.

The way Ramo played against the Oil I don't see how he doesn't get the next start.
Gotta ride the hot hand, no matter how much the other guy is getting paid.

So far, it doesn't look like Hartley gives a damn about how much anybody is getting paid. The highest-paid player on the team was a healthy scratch last night, and one of the two highest-paid forwards was scratched the night before.
For a team in a rebuild, I call that a very good sign.

Ramo earned the next stat for sure. As close as these two goalies are the simple stats like W's and L's will be what earns the the starts. It's not like Hiller looked terrible in the VAN game either. He was very good. But Ramo held the team in the game against EDM. He deserves the St.Louis game.

Ramo had 2 scored on him both were accurate shots that only only would have been saved by a fantastic stop.
Neither were his fault.
Hiller had 3 scored on him 2 he had no chance and 1 was soft.
Hiller faced a stronger opponent.
Both Ramo and Hiller were positionally sound and have earned the next start.
It is a good problem for Hartley to have.

I'm confident we'll get good performances from both and will be covered in the event of injury.

Hiller: 4GP 2W 2L 2.22 GAA .942 SV%
Ramo: 3GP 2W 1L 2.30 GAA .920 SV%
Hiller single-handedly beat Chicago & then kept the Flames in the game against Winnipeg while the skaters found their feet. Goaltending performances like these are the only reason the Flames have returned home from an extremely tough road trip above .500.
If our goalies keep this up we might not be involved in the McDavid sweepstakes after all...

I'd keep alternating till one tails off. Honestly, if they are both keeping each other sharp, why break the combo?

It's definitely working so far. Both players stay fresh & both of them are hungry to "be the man."
Best goaltending situation we've had in a very long time. Even in the "Kipper Years" there were 10 to 20 games a season where a terrible back-up goalie cost us games.

I think Hiller has been a little better so far and has a more impressive pedigree than Ramo. That being said, both have played well.

They've both played well and some may think its a bad idea but I'd shop ramo right now. A team like the avs or even leafs need a goalie to help steal points early this season

we have a fantastic 1A/1B tandem for the first time in a thousand years, so I sure hope management doesn't listen to you. Why break it all up so early? If we trade one of them, Ortio has to come up and that doesn't make sense. He needs to play a ton of games this season, not open the door for Hiller.
Re-sign Ramo after this season, keep Ortio in the AHL for another season, trade Hiller at the 2016 deadline and go with Ramo/Ortio in the NHL and Gillies in the AHL.

Ortio has a one way deal next season. He'll likely be lost to waivers.

I would bet we roll with the 1A/B scenario for most of the season and Ramo isn't re-signed at the end of the year, unless he has become the clear #1. Ortio has been terrible to start the season, but he's still our best NHL ready goalie prospect and likely would be ready for full time back up duty next year, barring a major regression.
