Well.. its an overpay, but they have no choice but to go nuts to improve to avoid embarrassment at this year's draft.

Have to think this eliminates a suitor for the Hawks for Leddy.

No draft picks until the 3rd round in the best draft in a decade.
Well done Garth Snow, well done.

Lots of speculation on twitter that the Bruins will now sign Simone Gagne who is with the Bruins on a PTO

El stupido.
At the same time I hope this screws over Buffalo.

Going for broke to make the playoffs. Islanders need to win now with the move to Brooklyn next year and have to show Tavares that they're committed to winning now and not continuing this spin around the perpetual rebuild.

trying to be as good as possible this season to avoid being completely embarrassed by having to ship a top pick to Buffalo. It's still going to be a top 20 pick, but that's a lot better than giving the Sabres another top 5 pick. Plus they obviously need to sell tickets in Brooklyn, too.

Isles acquire Johnny Boychuk for 2x2nds and a conditional 3rd
They clearly think they have a stocked up cupboard and they should by now of talented prospects. They are going for it. I wouldn't mind seeing them get out of the basement this year. It would suck if the sabers got 2 top 5 draft picks this year!

I believe in the Jays.
|
In for a penny in for a pound I guess. Too much for Boychuk but they did really need some veteran help on the blue line since they can't depend on Visnovsky to stay healthy.

I wonder what the Isles will get for Boychuk at the trade deadline?

Maybe the Isles get Boychuk and Leddy?

You have to think picking up a solid D like Boychuck will land them a few more points over the course of the season. May keep there pick out of the top ten which is good news for us as flames fans.

Wouldn't he become a free agent after the draft, though? I'd guess it has to do with making the playoffs.

Boychuk is good but that does seem like an overpayment. Glad we stayed away if that was the asking price, even though I would love to see Boychuk in a Flames jersey.

I think its an overpay, but not ridiculous to the level mentioned here by some. Boychuk is a good player and he'll really improve their back end.
The Islanders want to (need to) make the playoffs this year. Its different from the Flames giving up 2nd rounders for 30 year old players.

Significantly improved defense and significantly improved goaltending. (also a healthy Tavares)
In the east, where the 7-12 teams are garbage, I think they make the playoffs.

Patrick: Man, was I using mine wrong. How much?
Mr. Krabs: Five bucks.
Patrick: I only got seven.
Mr. Krabs: Deal.
Patrick: Patrick Star, you are one smart shopper.
This is how I imagine Garth Snow doing trades. Just like in Spongebob...
