Selanne comes immediately to mind. And Hawerchuk. And Gretzky of course (though he wasn't a rookie)

Stastny
Lemieux
Yzerman?
Ovechkin
Crosby?

Some schlub in Florida did it recently as well - just last year as it turns out, Bjugstad with 38 points in 76 games.

There was no comprehensive count or list for the league though -- at least not that I could find.

But there's been what, 1500 or so team seasons in NHL history since 1917? That's a ballpark guess. I'm curious as to the actual number of team leading scorers who were rookies.

I'll probably start compiling something tomorrow.

He went in the 15th round of our pool today (16 rounds, 10 teams). Could be the pick of the year...everyone wanted him but nobody was willing to reach early.

I personally think it'll be close between Gaudreau and Monahan.

Crosby and Ovechkin would've been the most recent. Patrick Kane as well?

Certainly you're dealing with generational talents if they lead the team in points as a rookie.

Edit: Clearly that last sentence is way out to lunch, unless I have greatly undervalued Nick Bjugstad
