That angers me a lot more than it should. As an out of town Flames fan, I had no problem paying around a hundred bucks a year or so for the games I came down to see. Parking for $50 almost completely alienates casual fans from out of the area. I understand there are many legit reasons to drive up parking prices (let's disguise it as chipping in and promoting public transit and carpooling, it'd for the environment, not personal greed!), but you hit a point where you make your product inaccessible to many people who already have a tough time experiencing the game live. My parents weren't broke by any means, but living 2 hours away and surviving on salaries that didn't have a lot of room for events that the entire family wasn't completely into meant that I went to one NHL game as a kid. I know for a fact if it had cost $50 for us to park (or the 1995 equivalent of it), we would have went to Gull Lake and had ice cream that weekend.
With ticket prices tracking oilfield salaries with no end in sight it's pretty clear that giving everyone a chance to see the team we are all so passionate about doesn't come up in too many board meetings. 50 bucks.. Wow.
Not complaining about 20 but I'm sure it approaches the breaking point for some fans ability to attend. I wouldn't doubt that hoping to strike gold and find a free parking spot a kilometre away from the arena in the Middle of winter is intimidating to some. Especially if you're not from the area

$7-10 for a MLB game is remarkably cheap, actually. MLB is cheaper than the other sports on average, it seems. Most are between $15-20 this year according to TMR. The Saddledome is actually bottom half of the NHL, and in the lower third of the big four leagues overall.
As far as this pre-paid card idea goes, I would bet they convert one of the entrance bays into a pre-paid only express lane. Though god help you if you're late for a game and the lots completely fill up...

It sounds like it is a reserved dedicated lot, probably at the south end.

You get a parking space in a reserved section between the Saddledome and the race track. The pass also gets you in the back of house access gates, so you avoid any lineups at the main gates. This has been in place for a few years, with no price increase this year. They are just doing more advertising about the passes.

The act of drinking beer at a game? Fine. But paying $8.50 for a beer? That's is definitely dumb.

I think things like parking are "cheaper" for MLB because of the quantity. MLB is 162 games, double the number in the NHL. So there are double the number of home games for a MLB team to charge for parking vs a NHL team...so a per game basis is cheaper, but overall....

Season tickets have been in the family since the young guns era and ever since I have been taking control of them I've noticed every year the beers go up $0.25. They make a subtle increase thinking we won't notice but every year its happened.
4 years ago when I got more control of them I remember buying two beers with a $20 and getting $5 back.
Then the next year I noticed I was getting $4.50 and so on...
Those greedy bast@rds!!

So if you actually like beer with your sports, what would be your suggestion?
Just wondering if you're suggesting people abstain because it's too expensive, or if you're smuggling in Old Milwaukee in your boots?

Game day $5 parking at Arbys is always open, and the new metal detectors don't work on plastic boot mickeys.

I always play some Texas Hold Em at the casino after the game. Leave after 1-2 hours (up $50-$100) and no traffic
Winning combination!!!

I've tried to park at the casino a few times because we play blackjack after the games sometimes...they wouldn't let me park because I was wearing a Flames jersey. I was some mad.
