Why can't we put up barbed fences that make it impossible for peole to jump into these enclosures?
Even fences aren't 100%. We had some donkey a few years ago go right up to our tiger enclosure here. He's lucky he only lost an arm.

No zoos mean Tigers would have been extinct due to poaching. Zoos are the only way certain animals species even exist anymore.

There are around 46 tiger reserves and sanctuaries in India, but they are only somewhat useful in protecting the species. The poaching of an endangered, bordering on critically endangered, species really makes my blood boil.

I think that's the major point of criticism. Zoo staff had lots of time to try to do something. There should be some type of protocol for what happens if an enclosure is breached, whatever the reason or no matter how idiotic/suicidal the person who gets in is.

Zoos are a necessary ''evil''. Whopping Cranes exist to this day because our very own Calgary Zoo pioneered a program to save them. In the '40s only 15 total birds existed in the wild and thanks to programs like ours, they exist in larger numbers today.

It GMG when I hear about crappy zoos with poor conditions. But it also makes me happy when I see well kept zoos that do their part to preserve rare animal life.
