Not ignorant. I took as a softball that more leads to "See how much passion he has? He doesn't need to work hard but does because he's passionate about hockey"

Sorry for the poor summary. I think the question was phrased in a way that Treliving is known for his drive, and they wanted King's thoughts on that in the context that his family situation might allow him to get away with not being driven if he chose not to be.
King also elaborated in his answer that a lot of people who achieve that kind of success where they could "lay off" or ease back only succeeded in the first place, and continue to succeed, in large part because they are driven and hardworkers.

Brad Treliving's father is very well off, but that doesn't mean that Brad (or anyone in his position) wants to or is able to live off of handouts from their parents or just dog it until they get an inheritance. I find it insulting that people suggest that he could just do that.
I think it is often the case that money isn't the primary motivator for very successful people even if his father does pad his bank account.

I think insinuating that since Brad is from a wealthy family, he should be lazy. Which seems just silly to me and surprised they'd voice that on air. EDIT: whoa I really got beat to the punch here.
Why does everyone seem to hate K. King? Never understood it.
Re: the arena stuff, they're being tight lipped to make sure all their ducks are in a row and they can come right out of the gate with a proposal that makes sense, as opposed to running around in circles and flapping their gums about it. At least I hope, and would assume, that's the case. Remember too the floods probably set them back a year or so.

Good to hear more hints that the arena project will include a football stadium as well. I think it's awesome and I can't wait to see what they have planned.

The person who went was a ticket manager for a corporation here in Calgary that has a box, so maybe less of just a regular season ticket holder event...wasn't much more detail then what he shared on the fan.
Multi-Stadium Complex with hockey/football stadium and with developers already engaged about restaurants, condo complexs, etc. King was mostly just adamant that it will change the landscape of downtown Calgary.
The one thing that was passed on to me was that King wouldn't 100% confirm but that it sounds like it will be the Greyhound/GSL area and that it will be very much a "West Village" type redevelopment plan.

Hints that ownership will put alot of equity into the project is a good thing.

Forgive me if I'm wrong... but with the project including an NHL arena and CFL football stadium, as well as what sounds like other facilities, the total cost for the project could be in the $0.7-1.0 billion range, correct?

I would expect easily in that range, yes. Could be more, it's so hard to say at this point.
The last five NHL arenas that opened cost the following, adjusted to 2014 dollars according to wikipedia:
Consol Energy Center, Pittsburgh - $352M
Prudential Center, New Jersey - $375M (no adjustment figure given)
MTS Centre, Winnipeg - $180M
Gila River Arena, Phoenix - $282M
American Airlines Center, Dallas - $559M
For the recently built CFL stadiums, here are some more 2014 dollar figures:
TD Place, Ottawa - ~$247M
Tim Horton's Field, Hamilton - $145.7M
Investor's Group Field, Winnipeg - $210M (2013)
New Mosaic Stadium, Saskatchewan - est. $278M
Ball park things at $250M for football and $400M for an arena as a minimum. That's my guess.

I'm never sure why people are irritated by no news on this arena. When they have something actionable, they'll let us know.
Until then, all we know is that the city/province hasn't committed to bankroll the entire project.

Because they started hinting about it far too early.

I got an invite to the one earlier this year, and I'm merely a game pack ticket holder. I believe that they used to be exclusively for season ticket holders, and in recent years they have added game pack people to the mix. I'm not sure of the exact criteria, however.

Don't forget the inevitable "Alberta Surcharge" due to labour issues. A lot cheaper to get labour in most of those markets versus Alberta

For sure. I definitely don't have my finger on the industry pulse here, but I expect labor and land costs could add a lot more here as compared to other markets. Maybe? I'm no expert.
