Is Klimchuk eligible for the AHL or will he go back to Junior?

It's such a shame that Poirier has missed so much due to injury. I have very high expectations for him. Looked really solid at camp last year.

I believe that Klimchuk has to return, but Poirier does not. I'm not 100% sure though.

Poirier himself said he's a RWer in his post draft interview.

Even if he is a RW, it doesn't change the fact we are short on the right side and a player like Padakin could fill that need. That gives us only two regular RW prospects in the system. That's certainly not enough depth in the position for this season, especially if Hanowski goes up to Calgary and plays 44 games and loses his waiver exempt status. Jooris will probably move over there but having another option would be a good plan.

Klimchuk goes back. I checked with someone in the know of the CHL-AHL agreement and they didn't reduce the games needed to call it a season like they were fighting for in the 2012 agreement (and I thought they won, but I guess I wasn't informed well). Klimchuk shows as 2015-16 eligibility in the AHL.

Any CHLer born in 1995 or earlier (1996, etc) cant play in the AHL until their junior team is eliminated.

Poirier is born in 1994, so he can play in the AHL, Klimchuk is a 1995, so he cant.

Believe you are forgetting Austin Caroll who could potentially play in the AHL this season if the Flames sign him.

In addition to that there is the likelihood that a LW plays RW. Looking at his chart if you assume one of Sven/Johnny makes the team, Klimchuk goes back to Regina and Gillies gets cut then they still have 6 left wingers. That also doesn't include Reinhart or Granlund, who as we know have played on a line together with one as the LW.

Quite frankly I have faith in the Flames brass and if they cut Padakin already, it's because he's just not good enough.

Poirier, Carroll, and Hanowski are all RW. Ferland and Reinhart have both played in the right side I believe. As has Jooris. Regardless, Padakin was the first healthy cut. Not going to keep a player around just because he shoots right handed.

Exactly.

Keeping him because he is a right-handed shot is similar to drafting based on position. Keep/take the best players and sort it out later.

Off Topic here from training camp cuts but Iggy looks pretty decent in an Av's jersey even if its just the practice jersey.

Not really surprised at any of the cuts today, Hunter Smith has a lot of work growing into his size. MacDonald got some work facing pro's but he was never in the equation for this year so this opens up more shots for other goalies.

Adirondack Training Camp starts September 29th.

Expect a good chunk of the remaining players sent there after the Canucks pre-season games.
