Looks like the Oilers 6x6 program has been shelved for a year. Schultz and his agent knows all he needs is a 45+ point (-30 +/-) season and the 6x6 will be his for the taking next summer as MacTavish wants to see more Paul Coffee out of the kid.

Schultz isn't even a good offensive defenceman yet. He had one pretty good year offensively in the lockout year, and his defensive game is a nightmare. But sure, he's got tons of Norris trophy potential.

one year deal so he can put up points and get that big pay day he has been chasing from the start...not saying I wouldn't do the same but this guy cares about one thing

I didn't realize Schultz is already 24.

That's a pretty lofty statement by MacT. It's true that, as of right now, Schultz probably has the highest potential to be the Oilers' most complete threat on the blueline, but the kid is just about entering his prime years and he has a ton of work to do. I don't see a Norris trophy in his future, but I also don't know much about him outside of stats and the handful of Oiler games I've watched in the last 2 years.

As for the contract I would say it's a fair dollar figure for what he currently brings to the table.
