Couple things I read online and have made Madden a better game :
-turn slider for CPU qb accuracy to 40 and WR catching to 35-40.otherwise you get robo-qb
-turn run blocking up for yourself a tad
-turn up some penalty sliders a bit to 53-54 like offside and face mask. Pass interfere to 99.
-most important is make intentional grounding 1
This will result in fewer CPU sacks and more throw aways

Is this game any good on the 360? Was thinking of getting it along with NHL15 this coming Tuesday.

Is the Randomized Draft in the Offline franchise mode as well, or just in the Connected mode?

Sorry, I should clarify.
I had read that that the Connected Franchise mode was snafu'd because of the available draft lists online. So they made the drafts randomized to counter that.
I don't play the online stuff. I do play the offline franchise mode and was hoping they hadn't made that modes draft random as well.
Is that the case?

I'm a Madden rookie. I like playing the offense but in defense I'm bored. Seems like there's nothing I can do on defense other than waiting for the offense to make errors.

It is kind of random, but there is still a pattern. There are some really odd players that fall.
Every player has a "projected round drafted" attached to them. Ignore this, because its total BS. QBs always go in the 1st round regardless of projected round.
Top RBs always fall to the 3rd round. McCoy, Charles and AP are always there at the beginning of the 3rd round. McCoy is always the 1st guy to go. You can get some insane value with guys like Lynch, Lacy, etc. in the 6th round.

So I bought the Madden game for the first time in 8 years (mostly because NHL 15 is such a bomb and I needed something to do on the Xbox One) with fond memories of simpler times in my head. I can't believe how far this game has come, and you pretty much have to be a football expert to play it. Problem is I hardly know dick-all about football...just the basics that allow a casual fan to understand and follow a game.
I tried to go through the Skill Tutorial thing, but the instructions talk like you're a seasoned football fan with a keen knowledge of all the terminology. I don't understand it all. So I jumped into a few games to get a better idea of it, but I'm completely lost. I'm simply choosing Coach/Community suggested plays with no slight clue on what they mean (man, zone, dime, etc.). On offense, when I pick a passing play, I'm just praying I do things right because I know nothing of timing, routes, anything like that. Any lob pass I make, no matter how open the guy is when I pass, is interception fodder. Running plays hardly ever gain me more than a handful of yards and I feel blessed I even get that. As for defence, I don't have the slightest idea what I should be doing...so I just let the CPU do everything (again choosing what seems like the same small selection of suggested plays)...which, of course, makes half of the game useless as a gamer.
Right now it all just feels automatic and confusing. I'm not knocking the game...it looks and feels fantastic. I just wish I knew how to enjoy it properly.
So I guess what I'm asking is if anyone knows where a casual fan can go to learn more about the game of football and get a grasp on the mechanics and subtleties of the modern Madden franchise? I'm not feeling the tutorials/Skills thing is doing a good enough job for newbs like myself as it clearly talks and guides over my head.
Thanks in advance.

Posting a thread on Operations Sports should get you some great tips. The community is hardcore obviously, but should be able to get enough people giving insight to lend a helping hand.

Madden is very fun this year.
To clear up what I think Francis was asking, the draft classes are all random and not classes at all where you can look online and find the busts and gems. EA claims that every draft class will be different for every person, ever time.

For Yamer, a quick and dirty breakdown of defense.
Formations:
4-3 - 4DL (usually two ends, two tackles), 3LB (two outside, one inside) 4DB (2 corners, two safties in the middle)
3-4 - 3DL (usually 2DE and a nose tackle in the middle) 4LB (2 outside 2 middle), 4 DB (2 corners, 2 safties in the middle)
Nickel - any formation with 5 DB's, usually adding a third corner back, and at the expense of a DL or LB (formations include 2-4-5, 3-3-5, 1-5-5)
1-5-5 - is a Nickle formation with 5LB's and 5DL and is used to confuse the offense as to who will rush the QB (many other formations use deception where they will send a LB to rush the QB and a DL out in coverage, but 1-5-5 is deceptive all the time)
Dime - 6 DB's - can be 2-3-6 or 4-1-6
Quarters - 7 DB's - usually in a 3-1-7 formation (though I suppose it could be 2-2-7 but I don't believe that is in Madden)
Plays (way more complex than I will get into, but I hope this is a foundation and you will pick up more as you go):
Man - where players who are in coverage (not rushing the QB), usually the DB's and LB's (as needed) are assigned to the 5 elgible players besides the QB to cover. This will be shown in the pre-play art as just an X or a square etc., when you hit the play art button once the players are lined up you will see a line with who they are assigned to.
Zone - players who are in coverage (not rushing the QB) are responsible for an area of the field rather than a man. In the play art a Blue zone bubble means they cover that area and back, they are not to let anyone by them. Purple is cover the deepest guy in your area. Yellow is a small area where you just patrol, usually waiting for an RB or TE to come into. A light blue is an agressive bump the receiver and then play a short zone close to the line of scrimmge and aid in run support.
Cover 1, 2, 3, 4. Zone defenses named for how many deep zone players there are on a play.
Cover 1 has one deep safety to patrol the whole field and try to not let anyone behind him.
Cover 2 has two players, usually safeties though can be corners, splitting the field and not letting anyone behind them.
Cover 3 will have 3 DB's (usually 2 CB and a safety) split the deep field in 3.
Cover 4 has two deep guys on each side of the field.
Cover 6 is a combination of Cover 2 on one side and Cover 4 on the other side. It is different from Cover three as there are usually guys in other zones shorter on the field protecting underneath (short areas where TE's and RB's are usually). Essentially, you are protecting one side of the field more than the other whereas in Cover 3, the three deep guys are evenly distributed.
Many man plays will have a zone element as above to them, called a Man/Zone, where some players will be assigned to cover a man, while others are protecting areas on the field in case guys playing man are beat.
Offense:
I really think that the tutorials are the best way to explain it. The routes that they explain really need to be practised and remembered. I find when I don't have time for a full game, but still want to play, I'll go and do a tutorial and then go to practice and try those plays going on what I just learned in the tutorial.
I tried out for QB back in high school but we were a power running team and I am slow as balls so ended up playing tihght end, and regardless, our schemes were not even in the same forest as these route trees, so while I have an understanding of them, the game does a great job.
Once you get a good idea of what each defense looks like, you will get to know which plays to call against them, or to audible into.
I hope that makes some sense. If you have any questions about this, shoot.

That is indeed very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to write all that up.
I have been exploring the Google machine to get better acquainted with football terminology, positions, etc., so perhaps the tutorials will be more beneficial with this base knowledge to work from. It's just a little overwhelming when they go through the defensive positions and how to attack them. So many different formations on offense and defense to remember, all with their own various advantages, disadvantages, and weak points.
Hopefully I can start wrapping my head around some of this stuff so I can play what looks like an incredibly robust and deep GM mode. Damn I wish the NHL division could match this kind of production quality.

Despite the help and my effort to understand this game, it just seems like a lot of finger crossing and praying. I really can't quite understand how skill plays into this at all.
Oh well. Guess I have to wait for a decent game to play on my recent investment.

I find just picking a passing play, and dropping and finding a guy who is open just isn't going to be successful, and is a recipe for INTs.
You have a catalogue of possible routes: ins, outs, slants, curls, fades, corners.
On any given play u run, I try to figure out how the d formation lines up to my primary, secondary reciever's intended route (ie. corner is playing way off line and my rw is running a curl, or corner is right up at the line and d playing what looks to be cover1 and the rw is running a fade). I already know the 2 receivers I will consider throwing to even before the snap, and if they both are covered look for ur rb/fb for something underneath.
Hunting for an open guy after the snap will end badly most times, which is how the game should be as it is reflective of how the qb position is actually played.

yeah, i don't go as deep as you and i just make sure before i each play i identify my progressions. players usually create separation at different times depending on the route so i usually go through those progressions and hot route as necessary
for example, curls usually go 10 yards before they curl, so i know i have time to check maybe a TE or slot receiver making a quick slant route, then if they aren't open i can look to the curl and then to something underneath. i have had lots of success with WR/slot/TE slants since if they are playing man, good receivers can create a bit of separation when they cut. if they are playing zone, you just need to wait until you see nobody underneath (usually LB).

I have a lot of success doing the short outs or crossing runs - anything longer is a dice roll. Q
