That's silly, rabbits are far too quick for mortars. You need some kind of direct-fire artillery that sends a supersonic round downrange so they don't even know it's coming until it's too late.

Automated robotic laser turrets are clearly the answer

Those damn rabbits decimated all my freshly planted shrubs and trees last winter…. It was actually kinda comical.
We had a fence built but no gate so mid-winter I spend a solid hour building a temporary wooden stake/chicken wire fence at the side of the house to keep the rabbits out but little did I know that I actually trapped the ####ers in my backyard (I have no idea where they were hiding). Couple days later I realized what I had done so I tore the new fence down and the rabbits ran away and never came back. Scared them into thinking my backyard was some sort of rabbit jail and it worked.

I would never ingest a city rabbit. They might be eating pesticide covered plants and street litter. Most of them are skin and bones compared to a good sized wood/prairie hare.

True, but they would prefer not to. If they have a choice between two lawns, and one has a cat, they choose the one that does not have one.

In a cat vs rabbit fight I would probably take the rabbit.
Last week, I actually watched a neighbourhood rabbit getting attacked by a half dozen magpies for about 5 minutes on my neighbours lawn. I don`t know if the magpies were trying to kill the rabbit or if he just had some food that they wanted but it was a prety brutal attack. The rabbit did quite well especially considering he was out numbered. The magpies would attack from different sides but the rabbit was considerably quicker and had a really good kick. After about 5 minutes of fighting the rabbit had enough and ran away.

I used to have rabbits. If a cat came by, the rabbits would spit at it. I am not talking spit literally but making a spitting sound exactly the same as a cat does when it gets mad.
If the cat came too close, the rabbits would kick it.
I kept my rabbits in an old granary. My Dad put up a 4 foot blockade in the doorway. Cats could get in but the rabbits could not get out. My rabbits lived that way for years.

Some guy in the UK killed his wife doing that, weird anyone would think that was a funny thing to do to a woman.
I assume her last thoughts were something along the lines of 'at least I don't have to live with this ignorant oafish prick anymore'

Absolutely do not do this. Mothballs should never be used this way because they're pretty toxic. Inhaling the fumes can cause respiratory issues and a number of other problems. They've even been linked to certain types of cancer.
