Ottawa? That's the first I've heard that. What makes you think they'll be that bad? I don't think losing Spezza hurts them that badly.

Really? It totally hurts them. You don't lose a #1 centre and not have it effect them. Go to other message boards and most people have the opinion the Sens are going to suck it bad. On forward they have Bobby Ryan and what? Some young players not ready yet and and a few often injured vets. Sure they have god on defense but not much else. That roster is putrid.

Edmonton and Calgary probably still battle it out in the basement. I expect something of a dead cat bounce for Vancouver and an 7-9th place finish.

Spezza was terrible last year though, and they were a better team when he was injured. If everyone stays healthy and Anderson has a bounceback year, I can't see them being awful enough to be in the basement, especially in the Eastern conference.

I see Vancouver in 7-9 spot. The Oilers have improved quite a bit over last year (some more size and an actual (mediocre) NHL level D). I see them around 10-11. Calgary has not really replaced Cammy's offense, and I expect a bumpy ride for the youngsters, so I see them in last spot this year.

Well I could be wrong but I don't think so. Not sure how you can argue the Sens are a better team without Spezza when he was injured most of last year and look where they finished. Now look where they finished the year before. Take a look at Ottawa's roster and tell me next to possibly Buffalo who has a worse group in the East?

I'm hoping we finish last in the NHL. I honestly don't see that happening, but I want it to.

It would be really sad if Edmonton manages to finish lower than us this season.

I still can't believe they did last season.

Eternally building something special up there, eventually it has to be built.

Right?

Right?

Bueller?

He was not injured most of last year. He played 75 games, and look where they finished.

The year before, he only played 5 games and they made the playoffs. Obviously there are more factors here than just Spezza, but they proved they can be a decent team without him.

If we finish last, I hope Edmonton wins the lottery.

As far as Ottawa goes, that team was effed when their heart and soul signed in Detroit. Losing Spezza for the package they got in return doesn't make Ottawa better today. It is hard to look at that roster and predict anything above sixth place in the Atlantic. And hell, Florida could actually finish ahead of them too.

I`m going to be optimistic about the Flames and put them in 9th in the West (bouncing in and out of a playoff spot during the last couple of weeks.) Vancouver 11, Edmonton 13.

That's the worst thing that could happen.

Hoping the Flames can tank at the right time this year to get the number 1 overall draft pick. That's all I care about.

For that to happen I think the young guys would have to take huge steps forward, which means they are the real deal. If that is the case then maybe it wouldn't be so bad.

IMO Cammy's offense is replaced by Gaudreau, but I'm probably just a Homer.

Also Glencross if he stays healthy.

This is the year the Flames bottom out. Cammy's offence will be missed, as there will be no late season surge from him or anybody who replaces him. Buffalo takes the crown for last while No Good shows minimal improvement, but are better with their additions. Ottawa is in contention for the suck cup losing Spezza, which boggles my mind how anyone can dismiss the impact of his departure, and to a lesser extent, Hemsky. He did play well though after being traded. Carolina seems to be a forgotten team. They will be bad again too.

Buff - 30th
Cal - 29th
Ott - 28th
Car - 27th
Edm - 26th

Van - 20th (Sedins can't stay healthy anymore, are declining, and losing Kesler is sort of like Ottawa losing Spezza, but at least they have Bonino. Ottawa doesn't even have that.)

Mason Raymond might help fill the void as well. I think Bollig and Engelland could be good additions as well. Hopefully Hiller and Ortio can keep the pucks out of the net. The Flames might be surprising this year. I wish we picked up Stastny though.
