I think Miller is on the rapid tail-spin of his career personally. He had his chances and he missed them.

Vancouver will be fighting tooth and nail for 8th this year.

I don't see Miller as an upgrade over Luongo, so I don't see any improvement in the Canucks other than the coach.

And any improvement is not likely to have a significant impact given that the Canucks are arguably worse in goal, and absolutely worse up front sans Kesler. I think they are a 10th place team.

Vancouver is a goalie career graveyard... It will be especially bad for miller since he has the same issues as luongo always had... Cracks under pressure, prone to extended periods of poor play, and doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut with the media.

I hope the new coach does indeed re-invogorate the players, gives the fans a reason to dream about the Cup, and rockets the Canucks into 9th place.

Ah, that explains the signs of mental disability. As well as the grim future in his field of work.

Very sad.

That explains why he would think that losing one of the best two way centremen in the league would somehow make the Canucks centre ice depth better.

I think it's entirely reasonable to think Tortorella alone was directly responsible for at least 5 Canucks losses last season. Even if everything goes exactly the same, but they win those five games they make the playoffs.

Hell, if they only win thee of them and lose two in overtime/shootout they tie Dallas in points and only miss the playoffs based on ROW.

I think Vancouver is going to surprise a lot of people on this board who very much want them to be terrible. They're going to finish somewhere between 6th and 9th in the Conference next year.

This is something that hasn't really been talked about yet.

Sure, it is quite possible - maybe even likely - that last year was just an off year under Torterella.

However, this season, they are also going to be up against the fact that there will be no Kesler to take some of the attention away from them. In the past, other teams had to deal with 2 top centres when playing Vancouver. This year it will be all about focusing directly on the Sedins.

Other than maybe an improved PP, I think it could be a long season for the twins.

So "how the west will be won" is about the nucks. Have the oilers released anything about "how to come last place in the west" yet?

I think he's on the right track with the importance of C's...but his conclusions are, for the most part, totally wrong.

If by 'between 6th and 9th' you mean 9th, then sure.

They are probably capable of improving by 8-10 points over last season, which gets them to about 9th.

But it would take another 8-10 points to get them to 6th, which is a completely different level.

I would love to hear how you think that's in any way a reasonable expectation.
