He never really did much in Florida though. Hell he only played 3 more seasons in the NHL after that. Val Bure was indeed an entertaining player in a very dark era, but in the grand scheme of things, trading him was not that big of a deal.
What trading him did do was usher us into the glorious Special Nieds era.

Yep, things didn't work out for him in Florida, but they sure looked like they were starting to work out for him here. Wish that trade never happened, and I even tried to keep an open mind with Niedermeyer, but just found him so frustrating to watch, though he did have his moments.

Also worth noting that Bure asked for a trade out of Calgary because of ... Greg Gilbert.
Some of the long, long term people here probably remember the arguments regarding Gilbert and the 'Branch Savardians'. The Bure situation was an early warning sign.

Risebrough didn't so much set the team back 5 years as he doused it in gasoline, lit a match and then took a #### on the ashes. It's like someone was literally paying him to turn the flames into an expansion team. It was actually kind of impressive how he took a top 3 team and just destroyed it, one trade at a time. Only took him like 4 years too. Kudos Dougie, that's got to be some kind of record.

I would take a Riser over a V.Bure any day of the week if I was trying to build a championship team. Granted, scoring was pretty high back in those days, but for a player of that type to score as much as he did, it was still pretty impressive.

There needs to be a 'vacant' option, some numbers just don't have a champion (yet)

I have two Val Bure stories ... neither of them good
1) Gene Simmons Boots - interviewed him in the dressing room. Asked a question, looked at him and wondered, why is this guy as tall as me? Is he wearing street clothes and his skates? Looked down and saw black boots with huge heels on them.
2) Was told the Flames had a family event at Melrose. Big buffet. Bring the family out and lets socialize. Bure shows up, asks for a to go box, fills it and leaves.

This should be about separating the the player's tenure as an on-ice contributor from whatever happened before or after. Risebrough was a good player, and he never even wore a number while he was GM. The choice is pretty clear to me.

I was so happy when the Flames dumped Bure - I don't think I ever saw a player who enjoyed losing more than Val.

Risebrough was barely 5'10" and fought Marty Freakin' McSorely. That's all you need to know about Dougie as a player. This isn't a GM vote, it's for the player. He brought grit and balls to this team.

Technically, the question the poll is asking us to vote on is "Pick the best prospect from the following"

Uh, ok? You know, I'm not sure you understand the point of this exercise since you voted Bertuzzi yesterday for Jersey #7.
