You guys fall for the same tricks with every QB contract that's been announced. Only $17 million is guaranteed, the contract has incentives that could boost the value from $96 million to $115 million. Essentially this is a 2 year extension for about $25 million dollars, which isn't terrible.
Even at $25 million over two years, that's still terrible. I think you can find about 40 QBs in the NFL who can throw it up to AJ Green. It's why Stafford doesn't deserve all that much either, anyone can throw it up to Megatron. Mediocre QBs now get paid more than great players at other positions. It's absurd, because if Dalton is worth $12.5 million per then AJ Green is worth $25 million per. Just doesn't equate. Only a few guys can do what Aaron Rodgers can do. A lot of guys can throw it up to elite WRs. See Josh McCown, from off the couch to looking great with Marshall and Jeffrey.

While I agree with that, they are paying him what the market bears, so now a QB who can do good in the regular season and crumble in the playoffs is worth $12.5 million a year.
Nobody wants to find themselves like the Jets, Browns, Bills, Bucs - teams that have recently had a QB carousel and the associated lack of success.

Yeah, when you consider that it's a 2 year extension for 25 million, than it's a lot easier to pay it. Otherwise you're out hoping McNown, or Ryan Fitzpatrick, or someone else's cast off can plug the gap.
Realistically if the Chiefs had to guarantee Smith that over the next two years, I'd be quite happy with those terms. Personally I think Smith is better than Andy Daulton, but it could be the biased Chiefs fan in me saying that.

Lots of teams get their preseason going tonight. Looking forward to watching the Broncos and Seahawks. My man Brock Osweiler should get a ton of playing time and it will be interesting to see if the progress that has been hinted at by the coaching staff translates to the field.
Ronnie Hillman will get a huge opportunity to redeem himself with Montee Ball out with an apendectomy. Hillman has firmly entrenched himself as the #2 back in camp thus far, but if his fumbling ways return in game action he could find himself right back where he was to end the season last year. It sounds like he is one of the most improved players according to Fox.
FOOTBALL!!!!!!

Yeah, at long last we finally get to see some action. I suspect it will be a lot of backups for the most part. Still might get a series or two of the recently paid Andy Daulton vs Alex Smith who has one year left on his contract. Football every Thursday night from now to Christmas....sorry wife...that kitchen reno might stretch out a couple weeks due to my no work Thursday policy.

That was a pretty brutal broadcast production of the 49ers Ravens game. I could only bear watching a little bit of it.
For a game in Baltimore, the NFL Network used the CBS San Francisco affiliate's feed and then dubbed their own announcers (who were in the NFL Network studios) over top.
The camera work was horrible, swaths of plays were missed, the feed would be zoomed on the O-line when the ball was snapped, random shots of the sidelines with no explanation; Toyota has an advertising agreement with the 49ers/WPIX to overlay a red zone graphic that was horrible. Overall it made it brutal to watch. After the first couple drives I gave up, even though I wanted to see some of the borderline players I've heard about all spring/summer.

DeAnthony Thomas returned a punt for an 80 yard TD.....they only highlight of the Chiefs/Bengals 41-39 game that I saw is Alex Smith getting sacked and fumbling the ball......NFL networks coverage last night was pretty terrible.
Pre season but the Chiefs get outgained, lose the turn over battle, out possessed, yet somehow win the game. Mostly because of 3 return TD's, the one by Thomas and two by defensive backs on interceptions. I wonder how long that smoke and mirrors act can last. Didn't sound like the O-Line which lost 3 guys to FA was very good.

Marshawn Lynch under investigation for assault and personal property damages.
Quote:
Bellevue police officers are investigating Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch after receiving an “allegation of an assault and personal property damage” from a female victim at a Bellevue apartment, according to a news release from the department.
Seriously, with Aldon Smith still waiting on a decision regarding a possible suspension, Chris Culliver arrested for fleeing a hit and run - I love the 49ers but the high ground is lost.
