This exercise is interesting. You look at Max's accomplishments and the fact that at 22 he was a leader both in points and in the room and I don't know how we can place him behind a goalie that has only had success on one team, and a defenseman that hasn't shown anything other than at a development camp due to injury.

Did Wotherspoon magically evolve into Sieloff or something?

I picked Wotherspoon but if I had been allowed to pick 2, I would have taken Reinhart also. Reinhart's versatility means he tends to get overlooked in favour of those who may excel in one thing. Wotherspoon looks like he can step right in this year.

Forgot about Wotherspoon. I meant no disrespect to those who feel otherwise about Sieloff and Gillies. As has been pointed out, everyone values different things from prospects. I can't understand picking those two ahead of Reinhart, but obviously others can

I think the clock is ticking on him a little bit and he looks like he will be in tough to make the team this year. He is developing into a fine AHL player, but I fear if he doesn't get a bulk of NHL learning time this year, his path might stall where it is.

But he's one year older than Granlund. That's entirely perception then because of the lap he made this year I don't see any doors closing

Went with Jankowski again.
I just have a good feeling about him.

Interesting to see the moving variables in a prospect ranking. Wotherspoon looks like he's going to slip a spot in the rankings from last year (6 to 7) but for most of us I think we'd suggest he's actually come on quite a bit.
The depth can really twist reality when it comes to year over year comparisons.
Gillies is going to drop at least 4
Makes Klimchuk's move of +4 all the more impressive.

Was interesting to see Darren Hayes talking about Kevin Hayes today on twitter suggesting the Hawks with a 2nd as compensation are more likely to let him walk then make a trade (I know we've discussed that in the Hayes discussion)
He then mentioned the Flames potentially walking away from Jankowski in two years if he doesn't jump forward.
My gut says they won't though, as his development curve seems on target to me ... just lost in the other names.

Went with Reinhart. The kid didn't just take a step forward last year. He hopped a train and took off.

Ortio encore. Wotherspoon will be next for me, then Reinhart.

Wotherspoon for the third round in a row.
He beats out Reinhart because he looked a little bit better in his time in the NHL and I think he has a better chance of being a 2nd pairing guy than Reinhart has being a top 6 player. But I think both play for Flames by 2015/16 as bottom pairing/bottom 6 guys at least.
Ortio/McDonald coming after those two. Just seems tough to rate goalies this high and although I like McDonald and thought Ortio was ok in his short time last year unless really great too easy for goalies not to make it.

Why walk away from him when there will always be a trading partner in Vancouver?

This year's prospect poll sucks. I know we're not voting for a Prime Minister or anything, but it's a legitimately difficult task looking up and down that list and picking the best of the remaining.
You've got the three AHL guys who were cornerstones for the Heat at three different positions (Reinhart, Spoon, Ortio). We're talking about the spine of the Heat last year.
Then you've got other good AHL guys who have shown they can hang in the NHL (Cundari, Billins, Knight). Billins is a AHL all-star who didn't look all that out of place in his time last year. Cundari is fun as hell to watch in both leagues. Knight is a legitimate prospect who I'm sure will be an NHL player. He's got too much skill and sense NOT to be.
Then you've got unknowns, but nonetheless intriguing prospects who could become solid players (Jankowski, Gillies, Sieloff, Wolf, Ferland).
Then you've got first-year AHL guys who look like solid prospects and have tools to become NHL players (Arnold, Kulak, Culkin, Van Brabant, Agostino).
That's still not counting guys like McDonald, Smith, Hickey, Kanzig, Roy or Ollas Mattson.
All in all, there's no way we don't get a solid crop of NHLers out of that group. There's no way.

I went with Reinhart.
I think he's a great package and will make the next step very soon.
