2041? Great, just in time for Ken King et al to release plans for the Saddledome's replacement!

Because some farmers, Hutterites, Mormon's, and natives living in southern Alberta prefer the city life. It's one of the most boring and uninteresting cities in the province.

I'd be concerned about how twice as many people will affect the water supply, and our mountain parks.

Not trying to be too much of a dick, but why do people move to Edmonton? I feel like Calgary has left them in the dust in so many ways, yet they keep hanging around population wise. Apart from a better university, and that waterslide, I'm not sure what the appeal is over Calgary.

Because some people are just not very good, so they might as well live in a city that is not very good.

Traffic, bad drivers, too many people, better festivals in Edmonton, family in Edmonton, work....I'm sure there are a ton of reasons.

If Calgary is going to grow this much, better hope there are flying cars by then because the road system can't handle the population now.

Looking forward to places like Panorama Hills being considered inner city because they are "inside" the ring road

My spouse and I moved to Edmonton last year. We're both professionals. Housing costs more in Calgary (especially way more near the core). Traffic is worse in Calgary. I really like the river valley and I go to FC Edmonton pro soccer games. I sure as hell don't go to the West Edmonton Mall.

I don't have a problem with Calgary, but aside from being closer to the mountains (if you care about that) and having a more impressive downtown (which is nice to look at, I suppose) what difference is there in the cities? This moral superiority is puzzling. It's not like Calgary is New York City or Chicago, it's just a really sprawling city of a millionish isolated in the middle of nowhere, just like Edmonton.

This might come as a shock to you, but people move to where the jobs are.

There are lots of jobs in Edmonton.

And it took only 2 pages for this to turn into a Calgary vs Edmonton thread.

Health Care - particularly Neurology and Psychiatry - are very, very good in Edmonton over Calgary. This is only a couple of areas of industry among other things that Edmonton does have an advantage over Calgary (FYI I'm going on anecdotal evidence based on having some level of connection to multiple medical folks in Alberta healthcare.) Edmonton still has a a rather robust job market compared to most other places in the country.

It's also less corporate-y, which appeals to some.

I may end up there myself next year, and honestly it's not as bad as people make it out to be (if you disclude that disgrace of a hockey franchise).

Highly doubt over a million people move to Edmonton in next 20 years. Because Edmonton sucks.

That's ok, doesn't matter how many people come to live in Calgary, Airdrie is always only 15 minutes away from downtown.

I actually like Lethbridge. But I simply don't see a reason for it to grow that much.

Going off memory, which could be a bit muddy. Since I moved to Lethbridge in 1986 I think Lethbridge has grown by about 20,000. So to say it will grow by roughly 150,000 in the next 25 years is quite a reach.

I also enjoy living in Lethbridge. Of course it's less exciting than larger cities, but, I like the relatively laid back atmosphere. There is a lot of natural wonder around Lethbridge, and Calgary is only 2 hours away.

But it is curious to know why they project it to grow so much. There are tons of new houses being built here, and for the life of me, I can't figure out why?
