I'm actually a little surprised Edmonton hasn't signed him to a deal. Just seems like the type of player they would go after.

True I guess, but he would rather not play than play in Edmonton? I kind of doubt that.

And Del Zotto's stock just increased.

I would think the fact that he's currently unsigned doesn't necessarily mean there are no teams willing to sign him. More likely he (or more accurately his agent) is talking to multiple teams but a contract that works for both sides hasn't been reached yet.
I could be wrong, but I'd be surprised if he has zero offers on the table.
If it was mid-August and he was still unsigned that would be a bit more of a smoking gun IMO.

If he's not a 40 point scorer (anymore) there are plenty of defenseman on ELC for EVERY franchise with equal skillset.

Former New York Rangers and Nashville Predators defenseman Michael Del Zotto remains available. Only 24 and coming off a two-year deal worth $2.55 million, Del Zotto is the youngest of the notable players in this summer’s unrestricted free-agent market.
Only two years removed from a 41-point season, Del Zotto’s struggles last season with the Rangers and Predators has hurt his free-agent value. The Denver Post’s Adrian Dater, responding to a reader’s question about the Avalanche possibly pursuing Del Zotto, claimed the young defenseman is seen as “a bad defender”, too weak in his own zone to warrant a big contract anymore.
Sportsnet’s Luke Fox reports Del Zotto admits this month is the lowest point thus far of his NHL career, but remains motivated to overcome this setback, claiming this summer is the hardest he’s ever worked. He also said he’s spoken with “a bunch of teams” but won’t say which ones or how many.
His defensive issues aside, Del Zotto could interest teams seeking offense from the blueline. He might be forced, however, to seek a training camp tryout in order to prove himself as a worthwhile NHL defenseman.

The guy is a jerk, I had him on my team in NHL 13 because he was a reasonably priced player. After we won the cup he demanded a crazy pay hike, and walked when my team had cap issues. There was not the slightest home town discount given. He lacks moral fiber, at least the digital version of him.
