The Oil has almost 21M on their 3rd line and 3rd D pairing.
This is money much better spent.

It won't be too bad for them this year... they just need to lose 2 mil and change but next year when the extensions kick in... holy crap, the only big contracts they have coming off are Richard, Oduya and Leddy and none of them are that big.
They are going to have to make some hard decisions next offseason.
Weird that they haven't made a move to ditch 2 mil this season yet too, they are really going to leave it late.

Well at least they won't be the power houses going forward with 30% of the payroll spent on 2 players. They're going to lose a bunch of good players and be unable to sign players they want. Good news for the Western conference.

$21m out of a $69m cap limit. Won't Saad, Runblad and Leddy be looking for new deals in the next 12 months, with a substantial increase on what they currently make? You've got to think both Sharp and Hossa make way in the next year or 2.

The Hawks were already $2.2 million over the cap. If these deals kick in this season, am I correct in thinking that the Hawks are now $10.6 million over the cap?

Toews is arguably the best player in the game. Crosby asked him if he was ok not being captain of team Canada for good reason.
I love Kane, but he doesn't dominate all aspects of the game like Toews. Amazing player, but not the same level. Still, not at all meant as a slight on Kane.

Agreed. Toews get you to the crucial game, but Kane finishes it off. Both are pretty important.

Flames 11 forwards right now make the same as these two the time the new contracts kick in. That's crazy!

They kick in in 2015-16. Their cap hit next season is $6.3 million.

They're signed for 6.3 each this season. Kicks in next season.

But then the cap will also be going up again as well.

So they have a year to sort this out... Could be very interesting for Blackhawks fans.

Wow. 25% of their cap space on two players.
Aside from rolling in more and more dough, I wonder if these players know, or even care, that they severely handicapped the rest of their team in term of acquiring talent to fill out out a 23-man roster.

Its not a terrible problem to have. Hell, if they could have made it past LA they'd likely have torn NYR apart as well and won it a third time.
LA and CHI are establishing Western Conference Dynasties at the moment.

It's expected to go up, but that doesn't mean it will. It was expected to be quite a bit higher than $69M this year and look how that went.

They know. But they've already won 2 cups and likely came very close to a third. This is their payday.

So they need 8.4 more for these two.
Cap rising may take up 3 of that.
