What...... That's a steal. The $ is only 400k more than his previous contract, and the term is fairly low than what was projected. I think Paul could have done better, but this contract looks like he wants to win a cup.

Very true, but you have to think he's leaving a team he loves and are looking very very strong

Yeah, he likely could have received a couple more years at this rate. Good player, but I don't think he is the game breaker that the Blues need.

Chicago needs to add a center.

Their division got more competitive today, especially with the depth down center ice.

The last big centre is off the board. Nice 1-2 punch down the middle for the Blues now with Backes and Stastny.

Nice term. Good for Stastny to accept lesser term to play on a good team.

Huh. They still have over 8 million in cap space as well.

Considering the cap going up, it seems to be that way now.

Great signings. Can't believe Avs let him go for that price.

Waaaaayyyyy too much money. This is the deal that will ruin the Blues long term because of cap concerns. I don't think they'll be able to keep that team together longer than 2 years. Still have Brian Elliott as their starter and an inexperienced Jake Allen as the backup. Not a recipe for a cup.

EDIT: Oh, AND a full no trade clause??? Idiots.

Definitely thought that he would get longer term. Money seems right though

Solid move, in a bad market as a buyer they overpaid, but the term is reasonable. Problem with Stastny is he's just a marginal upgrade on St. Louis' first line. They needed a legit star. I'm not sure Stastny's that guy.

Seems like everyone is taking a page out of LA's book.. just looking at all of the potential centers on these teams makes me wonder what Chicago plans to do.

LA
Kopitar
Carter
Stoll
Richards
Nolan

St. Louis
Backes
Stastny
Berglund
Sobotka
Lapierre

Anaheim
Getzlaf
Kesler
Cogliano
Perrault

Dallas
Seguin
Spezza
Horcoff
Eakin
Peverley
Roussel

Also makes me glad that the Flames have been working on that position...

Monahan
Backlund
Stajan
Bennett
Jankowski
Granlund
Bouwma
Reinhart
Knight
Arnold

Bonino was traded for Kesler

But I agree, building from the centre seems like the way to go based on most of the recent cup winners
