Any offer sheet with an AAV over $3,364,391 will cost at least next year's first round pick. Any offer sheet under that amount is likely to get matched unless it's outrageously high for the player.

It would be a bad idea for the Flames to even think about wasting their time on RFA offer sheets this year.

Given what Treliving has said about not being willing to give away pieces of the future for a small improvement in the present, I'd say it's safe to assume the Flames won't be submitting any offer sheets.

1. Steve Downie - to be an ass on the ice and make us annoying/hard to play against
2. Dan Carcillo - to be an ass on the ice and make us annoying/hard to play against
3. Martin Havlat - to score goals on the PP
4. Tom Gilbert - to block shots, get hit, hit back, and generally just not be very good
5. Thomas Greiss - I feel like he'd be a good guy to push Ramo

...oh, and yeah - Jarome Iginla.

Ordinarily, Niskanen would be my #1 target, but if the rumored numbers are true, then I'd rather go after Orpik and Quincy.

(Rumored starting point is $6.5M for 7yrs.)

What I'd like to get, if we're completely ignoring reality:

-Radim Vrbata
-Matt Niskanen
-Jonas Hiller
-Mark Fayne
-Steve Downie

What I think we will get:

-Devin Setoguchi
-Tom Gilbert
-A 3rd string goalie nobody's ever heard of

A defender or 2 maybe, but I want to see what our forwards can do. I think it's much more likely we trade then sign.

1. Radim Vrbata
If we're losing Cammy we need some more scoring. Okay leader and defense as well.

2. Matt Niskanen
Not too old at 27. He's RHD and has some mild problems in his own end but put him with Smid or Russell, he's fine.

3. Mark Fayne
Big RHD that plays two ways. Only 27 and came off him breakout year. Pretty physical.

4. Steve Downie
Some added truculence and help on the RW. Agitator and can still play hockey and score some goals.

5. Anders Lindback
Good backup to push Rämö. Still young and maybe with something where he can fight for number one will make him be one.

Stastny, Moulson and Edler are too unrealistic IMO

Why is everyone saying Edler? I'd. Can I assume everyone means Erhoff?

Not going for competitive players...but ones I think the Flames could land (maybe).

1) Devin Setoguchi. Probably a fair target here. Setoguchi is a player who probably fits well for the Flames...he needs a fresh start and time to rebuild value and the Flames are short RWs at the moment. Give him a short term contract to prove his worth and sell himself to the league as the 20 goal scorer he was before.
2) Thomas Greiss. Everyone in the goalie market will be going for Hiller and Miller, who both would likely want guaranteed starts. Greiss sometimes struggles with softies but he could easily work as an alternative to Ramo on nights.
3) Anders Lindback. Big and Scandinavian is the order of the day for Greiss alternatives. Lindback struggled a bit over the season but I would love to see him and Ramo push each other over the next few years for starts...I think Lindback has some untapped potential left in him.
4) Dave Bolland. I think he's got a bum reputation because of the injury. Backlund/Monahan/Bolland/Stajan works as a good rebuilding centre depth...especially as Stajan can move up in minutes as needed. Great PK guy and I think would work very well with Bollig.
5) Jamie McBain. Much like Setoguchi, I think there's some potential left in McBain that the Flames might be able to capitalize on.

Here's what I ended up with (using random 13/14 forwards and 7 defence):

FORWARDS
Jiri Hudler ($4.000m) / Sean Monahan ($0.925m) / Joe Colborne ($1.200m)
Curtis Glencross ($2.550m) / Mikael Backlund ($1.500m) / Devin Setoguchi ($2.750m)
Brandon Bollig ($1.250m) / Dave Bolland ($2.500m) / David Jones ($4.000m)
Lance Bouma ($0.750m) / Matt Stajan ($3.125m) / Brian McGrattan ($0.750m)
Max Reinhart ($0.618m) / Corban Knight ($0.900m) /

DEFENSEMEN

Mark Giordano ($4.020m) / Dennis Wideman ($5.250m)
T.J. Brodie ($2.125m) / Kris Russell ($2.600m)
Tyler Wotherspoon ($0.925m) / Ladislav Smid ($3.500m)
Jamie McBain ($2.000m) /

GOALTENDERS

Karri Ramo ($2.750m)
Thomas Greiss ($1.750m)

Would rather not with Bolland. Why not have Reinhart, Grandlund, or Knight try to fit that 3rd/4th line center role?

What about Michael Del Zotto? Apparently Nashville didn't qualify him. There's probably a good reason for that, but it might be worth offering him a short-term deal. I didn't really see him play this season, so I guess he regressed?

Realistically I'd like to see us target players by trade, specifically young guys in the same situation as Russell and Colborne last year

Brett Connelly is the guy I'd like to see become a Flame. I believe next year he'll need to clear waivers to be sent to the AHL (same as Colborne last year) and I don't see him fitting into Tampas very impressive top 9

22 years old, #6 overall pick in 2010, RWer, scored 53 and 50 points his 2 years in the AHL so far
