What does this have to do with Neal?

looks like pens were looking for a gritty winger who can score to be part of the return. so i suppose glencross would have been a potential candidate should the flames have put in a bid.

I think this deal could have worked for Pittsburgh

Curtis Glencross+Matt Stajan+Max Reinhart for James Neal

They get a Top 6 player (Glencross), a Top 9 player (Stajan), A Depth Prospect (Reinhart).. This might seem like a lot but we have a surplus of prospects like Reinhart atm and Neal is a top line player.

Glencross+Reinhart = Hornqvist / Stajan = Spaling ... 3 Players > 2 Players because the Pens can use some quality depth

Glencross really needs to be okay with moving his NTC though

Neal-Monahan could have been a nice tandem

Glencross is better than Spaling + Hornqvist alone in my opinion. At 2.55 he is the perfect winger for the Pens

Sounds weak to me. The Flames don't have Pittsburgs phone number or something?

The way the Penguins are being run at the moment who knows if they even put Neil's name out there as maybe Rutherford has had a hard on for Hornqvist. It's not like he's a really good GM these days as he kind of ran the Hurricanes into mediocrity.

Yeah, Rutherford hasn't gotten the bad press he's deserved yet, mainly because he's been able to toil in obscurity in Carolina.

He turned the Hurricanes into Oilers east. Didn't want anyone fighting on his team. Chose mediocre one-dimensional players to build around (Semin) and gave them way too much money.

He's not a good GM. No idea what Pittsburgh is doing this off-season.

They have similar value but Glencross has a NTC and he might not want to go to the Pens.

Honestly prefer we don't get a guy like that. I'd rather the team be built of people with less questionable moral character.

Neal has questionable moral character? What is this based on?

lol, Its quite hilarious that people want to build this team around a bunch of do gooders, you need both the do gooders and the rough I don't give a snot kind of players.

Yeah I would've done Glencross + for Neal.

I'm sure Glenny would waive for a high flying team like the Pens, if anyone.

It looks like Treliving has been busy on the phones, albeit offering some silly deals!:

@DarrenDreger: The Flames were aggressive pre-draft. Offered to take on Mike Ribeiro for 12th pick (Ribeiro wouldn't waive). Ultimately, he was bought out.

@DarrenDreger: Flames made a trade offer for Cam Ward in exchange for Carolina's 7th pick. Obvious salary dump opportunity. Hurricanes declined.

Would have been legendary if those deals went through!

Even if the flames included both 2nds in those deals it would have been amazing. 3 top 12 picks!

Dreger seems to have a bunch of Flames rumour that didn't work out. Is he toying with Calgary fans?

I think Dreger is full of shiatser.

I forgot who said it but somebody from TSN mentioned at the draft that Rutherford did call about 12 teams so its not like others didn't know he was available. I think GMs are just disappointed that they didn't have time to exchange offers. Case of you snooze you lose? I don't think the Flames had what it took to land Neal.
