With the organization's desire to get bigger, they could be using Sven/Backlund as pieces in order to add a prospect (Ritchie) that addresses a need they feel needs addressing.
It would be great if that's all it took but I would think it would cost more.

Hopefully they get something done as more picks, especially top 10, makes the draft a lot more fun to watch.

Totally, i wonder how much they value the RH shots and skills of Nylander and Kapanen over Ritchies size. Or the speed and shot of Perlini. Very interested to know this.

Sorry, my personal preferences showed with Kapanen and Perlinis names being dropped.

Need to speculate on trade bait here.

I think Burke suggests to Treliving that we offer up Sven, seeing as he thinks Ritchie could come in sooner than later and would be a bigger, better alternative if he pans out. I'd be touchy about giving up any player we've spent time developing. But as I've said before, you have to give to receive. It largely depends on the needs of teams like NYI and CAR.

34 (2nd) + 64 (3rd) + Sven + valuable roster player (Hudler/Backlund/Smid)?

maybe adding a 2015 pick as well?

Sven + 2014 2nd and 2015 2nd for 7th overall

Just excited for today and thought I'd give it a poke.

Just when the energy level on CP was starting to wind down, we get a major shot of caffeine.

So they want Ritchie but are smart enough to know he's poor value at #4. Good news IMO.

Please don't trade:
Gaudreau, Baertschi, Backlund, Gio, Monahan, Brodie

Anyone else, go for it for #5!

I agree, but he's also probably the most expendable within the next 2 years if we have Monahan and a center from this draft.

I don't think he'll be a flame forever, that's all I'm saying.

I can see why they talk about Ritchie having an NHL-ready shot:

That's a better wrister than every Flame outside of Glencross I would wager.

We should add a poll on who we would pick in the 5-10 range since the prospect depth is so close.

Islanders want roster players that can make an impact now. I am not sure we have anything they covet other than our untouchables.

Holy cow @ some of the offers being suggested here.

You aren't giving up Baertschi, multiple draft picks and a roster player for a draft pick that isn't first overall.

Islanders make some sense as they are in win-now mode and I would not be adverse to picking Ritchie at 5. Hoping it gets done (ideally without dealing Sven, but that's probably the starting point).

I wouldn't give up Baertschi alone for Ritchie.

I know the Columbus Blue Jackets do this. With that said, if we traded both our 2nds the value chart would suggest we could get 16th overall.
Well you could trade the two seconds for #17 overall. Then trade #17, #64, and next year's second rounder for #5 or #6 overall.

Probably over value our own prospects, but Granlund + 34 OA for Carolina 7 OA. Could add with a roster player going back between the two clubs but is that enough to get to top 10?

I don't think you have to worry, because nobody is going to trade away the 5th to 8th pick for Baertschi.

Let's not turn this into a Ritchie bashing thread, please. We already have like three of those, it's getting annoying.
